And if AI decided that the fastest way to make a difference with climate change was to guillotine all the billionaires, he'd be on board? Because I can save all that spend and tell him right now that removing that number of super polluters who consistently lobby against environmental protections would make a noticeable impact.

Would be a shame if someone sunk his yacht

Untangle him from the electricity grid

[–] phoneymouse@lemmy.world 45 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

These Google guys are such a disappointment. They could’ve done something inspirational, but what have they done?

Be honest, Eric. "We should go all in on harmful bullshit because I make money from it."

By his logic—we may as well just bury this guy alive, he’s just going to die anyways.

[–] skuzz@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

What shovel would you use to dig a 60 ft hole?

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 16 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Hitachi 1200 with a long stick lol.

Why the fuck are we going so deep?

[–] Annoyed_Crabby@monyet.cc 7 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

So he can't crawl back up? It's October.

[–] Dainterhawk999@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

ROFL... And also to assure he cannot be a zombie

[–] SirEDCaLot@lemmy.today 21 points 15 hours ago

So much for don't be evil.

At least as the planet burns, it will be because we now have AI that tells us to superglue our pizza together or jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. Whatever would we do without it?

[–] drspod@lemmy.ml 97 points 22 hours ago

Another billionaire tech founder demonstrating that these are exactly the people who need to be kept as far away as possible from positions of influence in our society.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 21 points 18 hours ago

Currently getting coffee, Viking Hippie says Eric Schmidt should go fuck himself with a rusty rail spike and keep his garbage opinions to himself.

[–] Etterra@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago

Not with you rich fuckers having that fucking attitude.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 66 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Even ignoring the selfish elitist tone, this is like saying "things won't be perfect, so why even try?" I hate defeatism, especially when it harms all of us.

[–] fuckingkangaroos@lemm.ee 21 points 17 hours ago

Its probably not defeatism, just a billionaire tech sociopath trying to pump his investments in data centers.

[–] PugJesus@lemmy.world 47 points 21 hours ago

"Be evil" - Google Man

[–] halfapage@lemmy.world 17 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (2 children)

"I can stab you for my amusement, you are going to die some day anyway."

Let AI solve climate change, HOW? Current "AI" aren't problem solvers. Or am I missing something?

[–] Dainterhawk999@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

AI - Arsehole Intelligence

[–] fuckingkangaroos@lemm.ee 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Current "AI" isn't really AI, more like autocorrect on steroids. "Real" AI will have the ability to program itself. Once we flip the switch on it'll move so fast in complex, inhuman ways that we'll never even be able to truly understand it.

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 18 points 20 hours ago

Hopefully Google kills him off next.

[–] Illecors@lemmy.cafe 1 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

This is a sensationalized title. As always - nobody ever reads the bloody articles. What he actually said was

we're not going to hit the climate goals anyway because we're not organized to do it.

Is he that wrong? Do you think we actually are organized enough?

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 15 points 9 hours ago

We are organized enough, the problem is that we keep getting sabotaged by a tiny few billionaires who want to buy heir next island. AI won't help there anyway

[–] aesthelete@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

According to your own quote here the headline is not sensationalized.

[–] apfelwoiSchoppen@lemmy.world 21 points 22 hours ago

Take a long walk off a short pier, Eric.

[–] RagingSnarkasm@lemmy.world 24 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Did he also say "And do not quote me" the same way he did when he told people to just steal what they want and hire lawyers to clean up the mess if they were successful?

[–] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 6 points 22 hours ago* (last edited 22 hours ago) (1 children)

It's easier to apologise than ask permission.

/s

[–] Vorticity@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

"It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to ask permission" was coined by Admiral Grace Hopper for use in a very different context. It is intended to mean that, when dealing with a beaurocracy like the military, it is often easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission.

She certainly wouldn't have intended for it to be used in the context of theft.

[–] girlfreddy@lemmy.ca 3 points 20 hours ago

Which was why I put the sarcasm "/s" at the end.

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 14 points 23 hours ago

Plus Elon and Sergey and Jeff said they’re totally leaving room for me in the domed city while the space ark is being built.

[–] xep@fedia.io 10 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

"Because it's a universal technology, and because it's the arrival of an alien intelligence… we may make mistakes with respect to how it's used, but I can assure you that we're not going to get there through conservation."

I can't understand what he's saying, even though it's in english. Did AI mean Alien Intelligence all this time?

[–] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 1 points 7 hours ago

That part also confused me. Does he really think text prediction is intelligence?
