Yes, but then we are talking about this kind of high heel:
There is a big gap between this and the kind of heels that the op is about.
Not as far off from the ones used in Persia where they originated.

How else would you keep away the blood of your enemies from your feet?
walking in these with only the one front strap is actually hell. doable for a bit but so much soreness and blisters to be had. with a more full and even coverage strap or tie they are kinda neat but not really good.
I'm sure the high heels are much more comfortable.
