Fediverse vs Disinformation

622 readers
60 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

"If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that’s what I’m going to do" - JD Vance

Granted, most of their stories seem designed to increase suffering, but hey since when has that mattered to republicans? I guess they want to be sure the media has a lot to pay attention to.

To most Republicans, "illegal immigrant" just means non-white person.

It’s okay. My dad already got his dose of daily rage towards minorities.

Truth isn’t relevant.

We live in a post-fact society now, so fact checks don't matter

Yep. It's absolutely disgusting.

Not if you ignore facts it isn't. I personally think it is swell. I'm a real big fan of standing on the throats of already suppressed people, especially because I know it could never happen to me, I'm in the in group.

If you can't beat 'em join 'em? Nah.

Native Americans: Story checks.

"Truthiness" on the Colbert Report doesn't feel like a long time ago but I guess it was a long time ago.

Felt like it's only gotten worse since he pointed it out.

Okay shit like this is why I felt the need to be on top of the news during the last trump term. It was extremely detrimental to my health but I also couldn't stand the outright lies I'd hear repeated daily, like I need to be prepared and correct them before the misinformation really becomes fact and not gossip. Or something

I honestly don't know how I'm gonna handle this one especially since I no longer have some hope of 'maybe in four years...'
