error commenting because I forgot I was banned
comment typed, switched to another tab, forgot to come back and submit
Completely lost myself four paragraphs in
Decided to paste it into notes instead
The trick is to realize you're completely wasting your time earlier.
Step 2 is not giving into investment bias.
I usually type out paragraphs, but after re-reading it, I realize I should just delete it.
Mostly I'll just find I'm unable to articulate my thoughts to my satisfaction and give up instead of deliberately self-censoring.
it's not as bad since leaving the other place because the hive mind isn't a singular entity on the fediverse, so I'm much more likely to just hit enter and potentially start an interesting conversation instead of knowing for a fact my opinion will be downvoted to hell or get me banned.
There are so few comments that I would rather read a half-thought-out one than none! :)
You probably already know this, but if you switch around to "hot," "top 6 hours" and top 12 hours," you get a lot more content.
4x or so in my case. Same thing, though.
Most of the time it boils down to "I can't be arsed". Stuff like:
- I'd need to rephrase it to still say what I think, without being impolite. I know that I'm an arsehole, but I'd rather not ruin someone else's day if I don't see a reason why.
- I'd be dealing with someone who's clearly irrational and/or disingenuous.
- I realise that I'm taking into my own hands some matter that someone else is better prepared to. For example, explaining a subject that I'm not too certain about.
Do I really want to interact with people today just to be clever? Sometimes yes, often no.
Maybe another 25%. Keeping it short works better.
Yeahhhh. Being on Tumblr for years taught me that the most inane thoughts will get twisted into a callout ages after you forgot saying them. I type out random inconsequential posts a lot and then delete them.
you have more self control than I do
check my comment history. I'm rude as fuck lol. I own my instance though
On my other accounts I say whatever I want but on my selfhosted one's I try to speak as I would in person.

"Oh, I have an opinion about this."
"Wait, my opinion has already been covered across a few other comments. No one will care about another echo in the chamber, I'll delete that and just upvote those other comments and move on"
