One of the most damning videos I've seen about this. Just reply with this when you come across someone trying to defend this PoS. Fuck this sub-human scumbag.

For those saying it wasn't real since he went off to the side instead of straight out.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 21 points 4 days ago (3 children)

He did it to the side because old out of shape people have trouble lifting their hands above their head so he needed to tilt his body to get the proper angle.

This is what irrationally annoys me. I could take a Nazi seriously (but still hate them, obviously) that does the salute "properly", but his face, the exaggerated chest clutch, the way he tilts his body... The militaristic firmness of the salute is part of the presentation as strong, but his imitation of it is so pathetic and weak that the only thing he has in common with the guy he's trying to copy is the massively overinflated ego.

I hate what he stands for, but I also hate that I can't take him as seriously as I probably should.

"Built like an autopsy" still rings in my head every time I see Elon anywhere. "Apartheid Clyde" is a close second.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 7 points 4 days ago

Probably both, but I meant Musk.

[–] asdfasdfasdf@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

I hate that we even need to think about if it was straight out or from the side. Like, don't fucking do the arm out at an angle thing at all. Anything that's ambiguous should be dropped from common practice.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 6 points 3 days ago

Someone should make a collection of all of these.

[–] Hossenfeffer@feddit.uk 35 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I mean, Musk could have ended this whole thing by twitting: "My apologies to anyone who thought it was a Nazi salute. It wasn't intended to be, I'm not a Nazi and I absolutely condemn the far right."

But he hasn't.

Right. Instead he tweeted some bad Nazi puns.

There’s no debate since the first second. Why are we still talking about it?

[–] moon@lemmy.ml 46 points 4 days ago

There's no debate but we do need to be loud about what happened because mask-off Nazi shit cannot be ignored. Especially not when the entire media ecosystem has decided to preemptively lie down and let this go down as an 'awkward gesture'

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 37 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Cause it's not ok. At all.

[–] Gingerlegs@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Fair enough, thank you. I’m…tired.

[–] WhatYouNeed@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Dig deep. Don't let the bastards win

[–] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 8 points 4 days ago

I hear you. I feel that.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 21 points 4 days ago

oh there is debate. some fanboys are still in the denial phase. if they can convince themselves it's not what it is, they don't have to re-evaluate their life choices.

this whole thing reminds me of former fans speaking up in Marilyn Manson: Unmasked . he was their idol and was able to appear extremely reasonable. they thought that's the real him and everything else is just show. they looked up to him, but then it turns out he's not just a harmless jokingly bizarre attention whore, but actually dangerous and the reasonable appearance is just one of his masks. it took some of them years to understand what actually happened.

[–] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 22 points 4 days ago (1 children)

There’s no debate since the first second.

ADL frame it as an overly enthusiastic wave or something. Lots and lots of people frame it as wrong angle.

[–] Manifish_Destiny@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

The ADL is literally a propaganda mouthpiece for Israeli interests in the United States.

Maybe we should ask some American rabbis, since they typically are true to themselves.

[–] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Seriously. The big news for the first two days was the stupid salute, meanwhile trump signed 100+ executive orders and news was slow on the uptake.

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That's why he did it.

Misdirection.

[–] WhatYouNeed@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Dead cat in action

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Because people are still defending it.

It's important to understand that for most of them? They're lying. They know. They don't believe in truth, they believe in fascism.

Some people think Musk has denied it being a Nazi salute.

The best and only response to disingenuous assholes pretending it was just fine:

"Ok then. YOU do the gesture. Go ahead."

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

On video. And upload to YouTube.

[–] NudeNewt@lemm.ee 6 points 3 days ago

Not sure if it's just me but all the posts from lemmy world aren't loading this picture of what I assume is of Musk doing the Nazi salute.

https://www.inquirer.com/politics/pennsylvania/towamencin-supervisor-laura-smith-nazi-salute-20250125.html

In a statement to The Inquirer, Smith said the video has been “greatly mischaracterized.” On Facebook, she said she made the post “to stir the pot. Because I can.”

[–] asdfasdfasdf@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

IMO anything even close to it is a no-go. If you're thinking up a new hand sign, pick something that has no ambiguity with a Nazi salute please.

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What's the source of the video on the left?

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Yes... Obviously... Not what I meant.
