A poll by CNN showed that 69 percent of Americans had a positive reaction to the address, while a CBS News and YouGov poll showed 76 percent approved of it.

This is absolutely brigading bullshit. Ain’t no fuckin way.

The only people willing to watch Trump spew two hours of straight lies are Trump supporters and political correspondents (and the large amount of overlap).

I have only a finite time on this pale blue dot, and I am definitely not going to spend more of it listening to what a walking combination of McDonald's characters (i.e. Mayor McCheese, Hamburgler, Grimace, and Ronald) has to say about the state of a country he's constantly trying to run into the ground.

I literally cannot watch the man speak anymore. I gave up in like 2018 or something. It's just the same incoherent misleading and nonsensical statements over and over. I can't understand how anyone can watch it. Even reading what he says is difficult.

Yep, almost certain a sampling bias.

Not much more scientific, but the YouTube suggestions showed me recordings from the speech from major national networks and they had like 1.5k, 1.2k, etc views. I gave that a chuckle.

It's probably because most people that didn't approve didn't want to watch it in the first place because there's nothing useful to hear.

[–] anarchrist@lemmy.dbzer0.com 42 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

Yuuup. If I wanted to watch a guy suck himself off for two hours, I'd pick someone more attractive.

[–] imvii@lemmy.ca 6 points 14 hours ago

It's even worse because his mouth looks like an anus and his neck looks like a vigina. He's a Cronenberg fever nightmare.

I’d honestly rather watch Mr Hands and Pain Olympics on loop than subject myself to 90 minutes of utterly deranged and hatefully narcissistic verbal diarrhea

[–] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 22 points 17 hours ago

Yep, I heard lies and accusations for the 5 seconds I tuned in and turned it off.

[–] 21Cabbage@lemmynsfw.com 4 points 15 hours ago

Amongst other things he just got into office, very little to say, and yeah, this is a guy only good at giving speeches if you're listening to tone not words.

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 7 points 14 hours ago

I happened to watch the segment on those stats. They clearly stated the stats would be biased to Trump. People tend to watch the state of the union if their party won election, so those polled for this were heavily republican.

[–] DyingWorld@lemmy.ca 2 points 15 hours ago

I sure hope so. If not america deserves every fucking thing it gets

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 131 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Im not sure any of them care about approval ratings anymore. They got what they want. They're just trying to figure out how to force the consolidation of power right now.

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 41 points 17 hours ago

It's too early to take the black pill. All that's needed for the House to be a check on the executive is 1 republican to cross the aisle. The less popular Trump is, the easier that gets.

[–] inb4_FoundTheVegan@lemmy.world 60 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Biden's approval rating went negative in September 2021, around seven months after he was sworn into office, while for Trump it's been just over a month.

[–] ReanuKeeves@lemm.ee 55 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

I'm going out on a limb and saying the approval ratings mean nothing. Some old guy told you he was going to dismantle the government, pick fights with other countries and has a positive rating but it goes negative when he does it? Either the approval ratings are BS or the people rating are idiots. Either way, that would mean the approval ratings are completely useless as a metric.

[–] Photuris@lemmy.ml 19 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

The people are, in fact, removed.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 15 hours ago

The people are, in fact, removed.

Many will be, yes. First they came for the immigrants..

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 6 points 15 hours ago

That was when he told everyone to stay home for CoViD wave Delta, right?

[–] Freshparsnip@lemm.ee 42 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

In Canada, another election would've been called by now

[–] Arbiter@lemmy.world 29 points 18 hours ago

If only we had such democratic systems.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 7 points 15 hours ago

The blues would be howling for a non-confidence vote; even if they already had their weekly one. Everyone else would just be heckling in parliament (#mulcair).

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 28 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

It was positive until now?!

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 14 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

IK,R? How fucking clueless do you have to be to support this clown show?

[–] Vorticity@lemmy.world 10 points 16 hours ago

You have to be credulous and in a news bubble that tells you he's only doing good things. Either that or you need to be completely disconnected from the news; I think many are.

[–] PortoPeople@lemm.ee 6 points 16 hours ago

Americans are slow.

[–] frazw@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago

I too am in disbelief. I guess it will take a little time for the effects of federal layoffs to be truly felt, but the price of food and goods will hit very soon. Maybe when people realise that their own finances just got a whole lot worse and they are choosing between heating and eating they might hate it more than they hate libruls.

[–] TheOctonaut@mander.xyz 11 points 16 hours ago

You guys sure showed him

[–] PrettyFlyForAFatGuy@feddit.uk 9 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

it's not like he has to run for re-election this time

[–] PortoPeople@lemm.ee 5 points 16 hours ago

He seems to think he is.

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 10 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Why? Did he do the stupidest things imaginable to hurt his own voters?

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I disapprove of JD Vance’s pants so there’s multiple explanations.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I disapprove of JD Vance’s pants

So does his couch

[–] sundrei@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 13 hours ago

The couch was appalled by JD's lack of pants, frankly.

[–] oakey66@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

The fact that this is what it took is about as indicative of power decline and descent into straight up fascism as it gets. If Trump didn't run in like a bull in the China shop, I'm fairly certain, it wouldn't have gone negative.
