Wow, have to get used to the new DT home and how it looks!

Does anyone know what stores like Myer do with all the clearance/reduced to clear stuff that has been reduced for many weeks? I'm eyeing off a few things that are reduced a fair bit but still too pricey for me right now. Do they eventually get reduced further?

Sleep schedule, exercise schedule have been fked up on June thanks to work. Aiming to fix both in July because it’s not worth sacrificing those things just to be a cog in the machine.

Today is Saturday you do you say, but it's also the day Reddit terminates my third party apps privilege to existence :(

I'm guessing (hoping) they'll do it closer to when it hits 9am wherever their headquarters is, that'll give us all a bit more time, but since it's all APIs and computers, it wouldn't surprise me if everything does the second it hits midnight there

Not really keen on getting out of bed for another couple of hours tbh

Times like this I could do with a mini tea station in my room. Hot water dispenser, box of tea bags, a couple of cups.

I’m thinking pizza and a movie. Might roll with 1981’s Excalibur. With a saucy little Helen Mirren as Morgana le Fay (and many others ☺️

My blocked ear is still working on getting better. Has anyone had a fungal ear infection before and feel comfortable sharing how long it took to clear up?

I think I’ve just made the worst decision ever.

I decided to wash my oodie and it’s so heavy water now. The washer couldn’t cope with the weight of it when it tried to spin it down (on gentle).

I’m now turning on the heating to help it dry, I don’t even know if I can get it dry at this rate.

I have backup oodies thankfully but this is the worst weather to be washing it in.

Dumb decision by me and yours truly.

DT people convinced me a couple of years back to buy a dehumidifier.

It works wonders on drying the laundry and my Oodie in particular.

Hopefully yours doesn't take an eternity to dry

Maybe try layering it on top of a dry towel (like flat drying knits), to help pull the moisture out?

[–] Force_majeure122@aussie.zone 8 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (5 children)

I'll add to this, you can put it on a towel, and another towel on top, and then roll it up tight and squeeze it etc. Repeat if desired. Will help with initial moisture quite a bit

I wash my oodie (along with as many blankets or other bulky things I can accumulate) at the laundromat for this reason. Definitely would not have washed it today. Good thing you have backups

It's simpsons quote day right?

Please please please please please please please please please.

Finally going to get my arse into the great outdoors and walk a bunch of ks before I get the few groceries I need. I have a botanic gardens and beach just around the corner ffs. It;s an average looking day but I have a floral umbrella, of course. I can hear birds chirping outside. I applied for a decent sounding job today and got a response to not so decent job too.

In other news: Wow! my feet have shrunk! This is good news, I was ladies 11 which aren't easy to find, but 10 is a bit easier. I'll have to go and check some 10s out. I'm not into heels, but fuck me if there aren't amazing ladies boots which rarely have sizes up to 11 without being really expensive.

Saw Indiana Jones. It wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. Some of the anti aging effects though were a bit video gameish for my tastes.

Greeting this weekend with an absolutely ripper UTI! Have a few unavoidable errands and then it's home to drink an oceans worth of Ural and cry.

[–] omoikiri@aussie.zone 7 points 1 year ago

Hot tip that I found out last time I had a UTI - if you end up needing a prescription, ask your gp to give you one with a repeat. That way, if you get another within a year, you already have a prescription ready to go. If you don’t, go get the script anyway and the medicine lasts 3 years. Saves you another trip to the gp/the bill.

Just make sure you take complete the full cycle of the pills because antibiotic-resistant bacteria is a terrifying reality

Travel tip: I'm writing this because I didn't know this service existed so maybe others don't know either.

LT;DR version: pre-purchase international SIM cards from Melbourne-based online store so you can use mobile data with decent data caps as soon as you land overseas.

Long version: (I'll use spoiler tag to avoid a huge text post appearing by default)

Expand Long VersionDid you know there are services where you can pre-purchase international SIM cards before you travel, which will be activated on the date you specify? When I've travelled internationally in the past, I have gone SIM hunting after I've arrived, which can take a few hours off your day and can be tricky if you've landed somewhere where you don't speak the language and need to use your phone's navigation without any service (real life experience for me in France 2017 trying to drive myself to a convenience store in the suburbs near Lille). I'm not even going to entertain the idea of roaming with my Aussie SIM. I need more data than the piddly amounts they overcharge for. I also don't need to be contactable via phone or SMS on my Aussie number while OS. Apps all use push notifications for authentication (banking, microsoft, google, etc)

Anywho, cut to planning for my upcoming US trip and I find out there's a Melbourne based SIM store called simcorner who I was able to buy an UNLIMITED DATA 30 day T-Mobile SIM through for $67 AUD. It took a few days to arrive but I've now received and registered it for activation which should happen while I'm in the air on my way to LAX in August. All I need to do is swap SIMs on the plane and when I land I'll be up and running right away. No muss. No fuss.

Today's mad science: got one of those limited edition 'intense' Dare iced coffee and used it as the milk in crunchy nut cornflakes. It's a little too sweet but otherwise not bad!

image is of aforementioned cornflakes in iced coffee
