Rules: (interactive)

1) Be nice and; have funDoxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them

2) All posts must end with a '?'This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?

3) No spamPlease do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.

4) NSFW is okay, within reasonJust remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com. NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].

5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions. If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.

6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !uspolitics@lemmy.world

7) No Hit-and-Run questions.
Please don't delete your post for no apparent reason. If you plan on deleting a question later, say so in the post, or if you feel that you have a good reason to remove it, message a mod beforehand. ‘Better’ is a pre-release stage of software development.

[–] wjrii@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, that's beta.

'Butter' is hitting something a lot.

[–] the_dopamine_fiend@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, that’s batter

“Beta” is a brand of water filtration systems.

[–] SharpieThunderflare@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, that's Brita.

Better is the name of a commonly kept freshwater fish that's very territorial against other members of its species.

[–] fake_meows@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

No, thats Betta.

Better is a taste similar to sour.

Better are the people that gamble a lot.

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

a semiliquid mixture of flour, egg, and milk or water used in cooking, especially for making cakes or for coating food before frying.

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

the taste sensation that is peculiarly acrid, astringent, and often disagreeable and is characteristic of citrus peels, unsweetened cocoa, black coffee, mature leafy greens (such as kale or mustard), or ale

lemm.ee

There’s too many people and communities on world. It’s good to spread out

[–] rustyfish@lemmy.world 28 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Make one on both and see which one suits you better.

Afaik lemm.ee is a pretty normal instance with pretty normal people on it.

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lemm.ee is my favorite, but the upload limit is low.

[–] JackGreenEarth@lemm.ee 21 points 1 year ago

Better for what? lemm.ee has had less controversies and is federated with more instances

[–] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 18 points 1 year ago

Lemm.ee. Helps decentralizing from LW

[–] SorteKanin@feddit.dk 11 points 1 year ago

Any third instance that is less generic and more catered to your interests or physical location would be better.

Also keep in mind that lemm.ee does not defederate from a lot of instances - this is bad if you care about a well-moderated space.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (3 children)

Neither. Never go for an instance thats at the top in terms of user count unless there is a specific reason to do so. This applies to all fediverse or decentralized services.

Go for any of the ones below the red line or sort this table by MAU and find one even further down. Excluding US based servers is also something to think about.

[–] CmdrShepard42@lemm.ee 15 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Counterpoint to this is that you may be in a dead instance that doesn't do updates or get maintained properly. You might sign on one day to find that you can't load any posts because the server is down or overloaded.

[–] 3dmvr@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Not an issue with like the top 20

[–] CmdrShepard42@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

I'm on my third account in a year or so precisely for the reasons I mentioned.

[–] unexposedhazard@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If an instance has multiple hundred active users, i doubt its going anywhere anytime soon. You can also just contact the admin of any server and ask how they fund it and what their future plans are. The "first seen" column also quickly gives you an idea of how long standing the server is.

[–] philpo@feddit.org 3 points 1 year ago

Then maybe read up on the drama around Feddit.de which only narrowly made it to feddit.org...

[–] Blaze@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago

Lemmy.ca is targeted at Canadians, feddit.org at German speakers (most of !main@feddit.org is in German). Blahaj is a trans-first space, programming.dev for programmers

Lemmy.zip and sopuli are indeed generalists

[–] quediuspayu@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Monthly Active Users :3

[–] Deceptichum@quokk.au 7 points 1 year ago

Almost anything is better than .world

[–] slazer2au@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Both. Why have one account? This isn't Reddit. Having alts on other servers is fine as long as you don't vote manipulate or use it for ban evasion.

[–] vvilld@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 year ago

Multiple accounts just gets exhausting

[–] morbitm@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

Don't like having one post on one account and another post on the other account

[–] guy@piefed.social 7 points 1 year ago

Man I enjoy federation just because I don't need multiple accounts

[–] Oberyn@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Lemm.ee bcus dœsn't block piracy subs (registered this account before remembering lemmy.world blocks them , but tꝏ lazy to make account some where else and wish could export my (post|comment)s not just account settings)

Wait! Which piracy community does world bkoack? And is it possible to check all the communities or instances blocked by world?

[–] harrys_balzac@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If you're interested in communities like that, dbzero is a good place to look.

[–] Maldreamer@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Thank you! I will have a look. Do u also happen to know where I could check instances defederated or blocked by dbz?

I honestly don't know. I do my own blocking of users/communities/instances through the app. For me, dbzero is the best fit.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

It’s just like the ‘What’s the best camera?’ Question.

Unless the instance your account is on has been defederated by a bunch of people and/or .world, the best account is the one you already have.

[–] xploit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

For general use more or less either of them, or dbzer0 or lemmy.ca or a few others you would have seen in your feed by now.

Localized instances are fine too, not sure if sync is still an issue, but if it is just view scaled, or 24hr or longer view.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

.world is a bit more generic and broad

.ee is more niche but personal

The users of .ee really turned me off the instance.
