My first question was "what is the Alt National Park Service? ". Here's the blurb from their front page.

The Alt National Park Service (AltNPS) was a movement that began around the time of the inauguration of President Donald Trump in January 2017. After the Trump administration imposed restrictions on the communications of various federal agencies, including the National Park Service, unofficial "rogue" or "alternative" social media accounts emerged. These accounts, which included the AltNPS, aimed to communicate scientific facts, environmental concerns, and information about climate change that they felt were being suppressed or underemphasized by the official channels.

The AltNPS specifically emerged as a response to the Trump administration's temporary suspension of the National Park Service's Twitter account after it had retweeted images comparing the crowd size at Trump's inauguration to that of former President Barack Obama's.ย

While it's important to note that the AltNPS was not an official branch of the National Park Service, it gained a significant following and served as a platform for discussion on environmental issues, climate change, and the importance of protecting national parks and public lands.

So is it run by people working for NPS?

[-] DNS@discuss.online 32 points 1 year ago

Yes, NPS staff but anonymously. Is that a problem?

As long as we're getting accurate information I don't see one.

[-] Vorticity@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

I'm guessing that, if it is, they're keeping anonymous.

If we're taking the OP as true, then that would be a yes

Polygraphs don't work, but let's not broadcast that too loudly this time. Just let them think that.

[-] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 25 points 1 year ago

It depends on your definition of "work". Is it junk science that can be flexible enough to allow those in power to make it say whatever they want?

You bet your sweet ass it works.

[-] Carrolade@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Yea, that was the funniest part about all this to me. People watched too much Maury Povich or something.

[-] muusemuuse@lemm.ee 26 points 1 year ago

They would be stupid enough to believe polygraphs mean anything.

[-] tauren@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah, lol. I wanted to go into the ackshually mode, but that makes perfect sense for them.

[-] MunkysUnkEnz0@lemmy.world 20 points 1 year ago

Can't wait until they start turning each other in. It's gonna be great to watch.

With that many yes men on board, it's bound to happen.

Let me look what happened with Giuliani. Trump uses people and throws them away. His staff know that. There's no loyalty. Only cash and power.

Once that spigot's turned off, they're gonna eat each other like The channables they are.

I'll say I'm someone very familiar with the NPS and leave it at that.

ALTNPS has not leaked anything of substance. They either release news that had already been released. Discuss how executive action effects the parks, or stuff like this. A completely unsubstantiated statement with no evidence.

They are doing great outreach work and engage the public to the absolute crisis facing the parks. But for statements like these I'm definently skeptical

[-] octopus_ink@slrpnk.net 14 points 1 year ago

This specific statement was clearly a troll.

I have NO expectation that they have or will "leak anything of substance."

I think it's a ploy. If MAGA thinks their loyalty tests aren't working they will ramp them up and consume themselves. This is probably some 4D judo using their weight against them.

[-] mjhelto@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

I learned the secret for beating a polygraph test from Penn and Teller's Bullshit!. The secret is clenching your buttcheeks the whole time, only relaxing when telling a lie.

Fragility-driven paranoia is the only shred of self-awareness in a fascist regime.

To be fair every group has them, whether it's a polygraph test or asking your opinion of JK Rowling.

[-] boonhet@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I dislike the cunt but never have I asked anyone about their opinion of her tbh

[-] Sibbo@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

Is this true? I haven't seen it in any news besides this lemmy post.
