The concentration camp sits atop a concrete airport pad, isolated in the swamplands of the Florida Everglades. Trump claimed the tents are air-conditioned, but the extreme heat and humidity of the Florida summer make humane conditions virtually impossible, particularly if generators fail or fuel supplies run out. If a hurricane were to strike the area, the tents would offer no meaningful protection. The result could be catastrophic, with an unknown number of potential deaths...

As part of a far-right media blitz aimed at normalizing the construction of remote concentration camps for immigrants and political opponents of the US government, the Republican Party is now selling merchandise to promote the Florida camp—complete with hats emblazoned with alligators. It’s the American fascist equivalent of the Nazis selling beer koozies or ashtrays to commemorate Auschwitz...

I wonder where we would be today if that teenager aimed 6 inches to the right

[-] SippyCup@feddit.nl 49 points 1 year ago

President Harris would be proposing milquetoast legislation aimed at centrist Republicans for some reason.

Not great, but better than whatever the fuck it is we're dealing with now

[-] Deceptichum@quokk.au 18 points 1 year ago

The second best time to aim 6 inches to the right is today.

[-] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

Wonder where we would be today if the US wasn’t full of cowering enablers.

They're trying to build a prison

For you and me to live in

[-] r4venw@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 year ago

Another prison system for you and me!

[-] MJKee9@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

The ridiculous amount of $$$$ needed to air condition that non-insulated tent?

Right... its either BS and inhumane heat, or they are spending RIDICULOUS amount of diesel to run the generators for that AC unit that isn't going to run very well.

[-] Hawke@lemmy.world 23 points 1 year ago

Probably both. They’re running A/C to cool nothing and burning diesel to do it, while still being inhumane on top of illegal.

[-] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Likely the staff will have access to an ACed room or something, the rest need to die of heatstrokes and dehydration.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago

Having been around these types of people, the ACed room is also probably miserably hot because someone high up likes to leave the windows open for no reason.

Gotta spend that grift money somehow.

[-] blattrules@lemmy.world 30 points 1 year ago

These idiots find an infinite amount of money in the budget and move at lightning speed to finish their hate projects but when you try to do anything that’s actually beneficial the people in this country they delay it and claim we have no money to pay for it.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Yeah, for example they acted like it was prejudice and super-double-unlegal to....checks notes....relieve students of their debt.

Like that was so super-unAmerican. Because not everyone. But this....just fiiiiiine.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

Idk, as an American I would say some of the biggest American values are selfishness and independence...

Have you tried a strongly worded letter?

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

Maybe walking down the street with a sign will stop them.

[-] devolution@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

My fat black ass could use the exercise in the fields anyways. Freedom is overrated. But at least my wife will make a new life in El Salavador as a Puerto Rican.

Well, I guess he finally got us back to when "America was great." Good ol 1942, next stop 1861.

[-] toppy@lemy.lol 6 points 1 year ago

Damn. US Americans are slowly becoming nazis. After few years people will start giving nazi salute in the streets. Shame.

[-] Sunflier@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

They already are

[-] OutlierBlue@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 year ago

"Slowly"? We're already here.

The US is Germany in the 1930s. They're attacking the media, education, Democrats, rounding up undesirables, threatening to annex ~~Austria~~ Canada.

We're already here.
