I know this isn't an unpopular meme in general, skibidi toilet gets millions (probably billions) of views globally, but it certainly is an unpopular opinion among people of my agegroup, and probably among the Lemmy crowd as well.

Skibidi toilet is utterly absurd and wacky while also incorporating some fairly entertaining worldbuilding and parallel narratives. You should check it out if you haven't yet. It's well-made 3D SFM animation, and uses a lot of the Half-Life 2 assets too.

Just to be clear, I mean the original skibidi toilet animations made by the youtube channel 'Dafuq boom' (I think that was the name). The derivative brainless slop that circulates all over YouTube is garbage.

I saw a piece of Skibidi merch in the dollar store the other day, and I'm still amazed that Valve lets them sell actual physical bumf relating to this at retail and for a profit. Because as far as I know, the "Skibidi guy," (I'll be damned if I'm looking up his canon name) is literally just Half Life 2's male_07 NPC model with his face contorted into a rictus using Garry's Mod.

Imagine if someone did this with a Nintendo asset. The crater would be visible from space.

(Edit: Believe it or not I originally spelled one instance of "Skibidi" wrong. I know, right? Dishonor to my ancestors, etc.)

I mean Valve even lets people make half-life and portal fan games, which get published on steam.

A lot of the assets from skibidi toilet are from source games. Hell, the evil mega toilet is just straight up G-Man.

People tend to forget we liked Ronald McDonald Insanity back in the days

I recommend anyone who hates on Skibidi Toilet to actually watch more than one video. I did out of curiosity, and discovered a surprisingly heavy story about camaraderie and loss in war, told almost entirely visually with basically no dialogue.

Yes, it's ridiculous, but it's also deeper than you would expect.

I knew Skibidi toilets are a massive shift in internet culture; In this moment I realized a new generation had arrived to the internet.

Welcome to the Unpopular Opinion community!

How voting works:

Vote the opposite of the norm.

If you agree that the opinion is unpopular give it an arrow up. If it's something that's widely accepted, give it an arrow down.

Guidelines:

Tag your post, if possible (not required)

  • If your post is a "General" unpopular opinion, start the subject with [GENERAL].
  • If it is a Lemmy-specific unpopular opinion, start it with [LEMMY].

Rules:

1. NO POLITICS

Politics is everywhere. Let's make this about [general] and [lemmy] - specific topics, and keep politics out of it.

2. Be civil.

Disagreements happen, but that doesn’t provide the right to personally attack others. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Please also refrain from gatekeeping others' opinions.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Shitposts and memes are allowed but...

Only until they prove to be a problem. They can and will be removed at moderator discretion.

5. No trolling.

This shouldn't need an explanation. If your post or comment is made just to get a rise with no real value, it will be removed. You do this too often, you will get a vacation to touch grass, away from this community for 1 or more days. Repeat offenses will result in a perma-ban.

6. Defend your opinion

This is a bit of a mix of rules 4 and 5 to help foster higher quality posts. You are expected to defend your unpopular opinion in the post body. We don't expect a whole manifesto (please, no manifestos), but you should at least provide some details as to why you hold the position you do.

Instance-wide rules always apply. https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
