I'm not usually a big fan of barn owl but I'm not biais. I can recognised beauty when I see it.
They've really caught my eye this year for some reason. I used to prefer them less, more from the face shape being a bit too alien, but the last couple months, I've been really loving them and their marble-like eyes. Even that horrible voice they have I've been finding charming. I can be an odd one...just like the barn owls! 😄
I won't say they are odd. They are just not my style. But this one is deserving to do peageant. If this picture is used for barn owl in the upcoming superbowl the concurrence doesn't stand a chance.
Barn owls are that acquired taste we have with foods. Some have grown to like them, some try to like them but never do, and some like them now and then but not all the time.
I think the trick is finding the first one you do like. These European ones seem lighter and more angelic than the American ones. Ours have some warmer neutral browns and a light spotting. Then ones like today's Grass Owl get bolder colors and heavier spotting. Off in Asia and Oceania the Bay Owl turn the weirdness up to 11 to double down on it. Australia flips things all around to make theirs black with white spots with the Sooties or a rich gold with the Masked Owls.
There's a barn owl out there for everyone! I am glad you found this one to be so special.

If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.
