Hot take: still valid.

We can still appreciate and celebrate the success of climbing out of a hole even if the subject was the one who dug it.

This is what personal growth looks like tbh. Eventually you learn just because you have a shovel in your hand that you don't always have to dig with it... And then you start clocking dickhead with it like I do!

It ain’t just guys. Let me tell you the story of my ex…

[–] Track_Shovel@slrpnk.net 12 points 8 months ago

Now this is a story, all about how, my life got flip-turned upside down...

[–] trolololol@lemmy.world 3 points 8 months ago

So kids, sit down. This is how I met your mother. Buckle up, this version spans 5 years.

Cognitive behavioral therapy helps with this exact problem

Worse case it is like the new Frankenstein movie

WHO IS TRYING TO KILL YOU

well, it all started with my Dad when I was a baby...

It was sooo bad 😭😭 not even faithful to the original, let alone even remotely entertaining.

I love that emo aesthetic only del Toro can bring. but dude, the people who rescued you want to know what they're dealing with, it's not free therapy.

Everything in life is consequence to our own actions though

Edit: That doesn't mean other people don't affect us of course. But by the time you're an adult, there have probably been hundreds of times you could've killed yourself if you didn't want to live with the hand you've been dealt. Surviving is voluntary. Anything you've ever done or has been done to you after choosing to survive, is a consequence to that choice.

Obviously I'm not saying that being born with a disability or as a discriminated minority is a consequence to our own actions. Living with it is a choice, though. One most of us make even despite being presented with hardships - otherwise the human race would've died long ago.

Sometimes it is the consequences of other people's actions.

Nono, you totally just didn't recycle enough aluminum and glass. Anthropogenic climate change is definitely your fault!

[–] AndyMFK@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 8 months ago

There's a hell of a lot more other people than there are me.

Seems like most of the consequences i suffer are from other people's actions

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz -4 points 8 months ago

But every day you are suffering from your own decision to keep living. Existing in the world as we know it is voluntary.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 5 points 8 months ago

Yeah, like choosing to be born poor or a persecuted minority.

Not everything, like illnesses and disorders.

I mostly still agree.

no guy has ever dropped the line "you don't know what I've been through"
