Microsoft’s aggressive AI push in Windows 11 through 2025 brought upon themselves the title Microslop. Unfortunately for the company, it’s everywhere on social media, and there isn’t a way to stop the spread, unless, of course, it’s their own Discord server.

Just for fun: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/microslop/

Why does Microsoft use Discord??

[–] mesamunefire@piefed.social 82 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Right! That makes it funnier in my opinion. Cause they have teams.

[–] Petter1@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 5 months ago

You gotta keep competition in view

[–] testaccount372920@piefed.zip 43 points 5 months ago

I guess their own slop isn't good enough as a communication platform

[–] tabular@lemmy.world 17 points 5 months ago

It's where people are, sadly.

[–] pixxelkick@lemmy.world 16 points 5 months ago

They use Discord for community stuff, IE non employee interactions. People can join those communities to learn, they have several

Teams is used for internal employee chat.

[–] Reygle@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

For the same reason they have a twitter account for sharing updates about outages. Because their own systems don't @#^ing work

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 6 points 5 months ago

*Microslop.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Did you mean Microslop and… actually, Discord doesn‘t even need a clever nickname.

[–] lmr0x61@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 months ago

Looks like it’s the official server for Copilot, presumably for the community (e.g. support, etc) not internal communication, for what that’s worth

I didn't really like the name microslop, but after their reactions, now I love and use it

[–] panda_abyss@lemmy.ca 18 points 5 months ago

This is like when someone gives the new guy a nickname abd they freak out about it.

You've only cemented the name you fools.

[–] Nelots@piefed.zip 80 points 5 months ago

So Microslop is censoring its own name? Strange choice, but okay.

Someone see if "Micros|op" (with the pipe character) or "MicrosIop" (with a capital letter i) is also blocked.

[–] WanderingThoughts@europe.pub 15 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Is this going to turn into l33tsp34k? µ-$£0|° or one of the many variations

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 13 points 5 months ago

How about tiny trash? Or runty rubbish? Or junior junk?

[–] vacuumflower@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 5 months ago

In Russian "мокросовт" (mokrosovt), as in "wetly poke".

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I wonder how much longer MS is going to walk this path?

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Have you been seeing a lot of megacorporations get their act together and start behaving reasonably lately?

[–] Eat_Your_Paisley@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Obviously not, but their stock took a big dump and their AI spend is not sustainable yet they just keep going.

My orgs Win 11 GM is AI free so non-AI Windows is still maintained so a switch could be flipped today.

They could probably charge more for AI free Windows and Office

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 4 points 5 months ago

Oh man, imagine poisoning your product and then charging more for the poison free version. You've Really reached god status when you can pull off a move like that.

[–] MadMadBunny@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 months ago

Buy why would Microslop consciously damage its own, hard-earned branding and reputation?
