I am looking for mods!

1. The "good" part of our community means we are pro-empathy and anti-harassment. However, we don't intend to make this a "safe space" where everyone has to be a saint. Sh*t happens, and life is messy. That's why we get things off our chests.

2. Bigotry is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and religiophobia. (If you want to vent about religion, that's fine; but religion is not inherently evil.)

3. Frustrated, venting, or angry posts are still welcome.

4. Posts and comments that bait, threaten, or incite harassment are not allowed.

5. If anyone offers mental, medical, or professional advice here, please remember to take it with a grain of salt. Seek out real professionals if needed.

When I wake up, I'll be an adult. Tomorrow is my birthday. I'm so not ready.

Give it 10 or 20 years and you'll be laughing at yourself thinking of yourself now as an adult.

Still trying to figure out how to be an adult

No one is and then you're fine. Infact you will turn 40 in less than ten years.

You'll understand the math when you're 40.

Will anything concrete change in your life

will you get kicked out of your home, will you suddenly be financially responsible for things you previously weren't, etc.?

If it's any consolation, a lot of us don't feel like adults, and that's ok! My kids seem to think I'm a grown up, so I managed to fool them at least.

Just keep learning as you go, and ask questions. We all love talking about things we know/have experience with (just ask the average Lemmy user what Linux distro you should install...), and there's basically no such thing as "cheating" when it comes to figuring out how to be an adult.

One day at a time!

I remember I was asked by multiple people when I turned 18 how I felt. What I felt was that that was a weird question lol. It's not like one day passing made me suddenly feel somehow different from the day before.

You might be 18 years old. But if you are adult is a different question.

Congrats, nonetheless!

Don't worry, they can send you to war, but you still can't drink alcohol for another 3 years.

Wait, fuck...

Your 20s can be a lot of fun! You'll always look back at them as the time when your body didn't have weird aches and pains, so enjoy it!

What should I do to make the most of my 20s? It's so hard to appreciate stuff when you don't know what to appreciate because you've never lived without it before

[–] eyes@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Get into regular exercise, nothing too crazy like bodybuilding but some cardio and little bit of weights will pay dividends at 30.

Hard to suggest stuff without knowing what you're into, but I'd definitely echo the comment by u/eyes about doing something active, preferably regularly like once or twice a week. Team sports are good for this, or if you're not a sport-type you might try hiking or volunteering with local nature orgs.

Let your interests guide you and meet as many folks as possible. Lots of friendships to be made in your new adult life.

Next month ill have been 15 for the last 20 years so keep your chin up.

Bad (good?) news. Nothing changes. Except now you can get tried as an adult for crimes, you can and should vote, and it's illegal to sleep with half the people you know until they also turn 18.

Happy birthday! Make sure to get your free stuff.

I was terrified when I moved out, I thought I would never find a steady job or figure out normal adult stuff, and I'd be homeless in a few months.

You might stop being a minor overnight, but you don't become an adult overnight. It's a gradual process and honestly you barely notice.
