Biden's administration did not propose, plan or execute the missions. It was done by Nasa. Artemis missions where established by Trump's space policy directives on his first term in 2017 and while Biden endorsed the program, he also proposed budget cuts to it.

While I'm all in for Trump bashing, there is enough real dirt on Trump that we don't really have to invent facts.

You think someone would just go on the internet and lie?

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Definitely not. Everything is true on the internet.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

yessss. it is allll trueee

Such as Biden following the Afghanistan withdrawl plan that Trump created, which every right winger lost their minds over and blamed Biden for.

Like, Trump created this plan, so he could claim credit for ending the war, which of course telegraphed to everyone that the withdrawal would be happening, then, when it ... happened, under Biden, according to Trump's plan, Trump blamed Biden for the entire thing.

Like its more complicated than that technically, but really not by much.

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

Well, yeah. GOP taking credit for all good things Dems did and blaming Dems for all bad things GOP did. That's what GOP/maga/Trump does

Trump's space policy directives on his first term

So you're saying artemis II was about establishing military supremacy in space?

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

No, I'm not saying that and that is not what space policy directive is about

"...Lead an innovative and sustainable program of exploration with commercial and international partners to enable human expansion across the Solar System and to bring back to Earth new knowledge and opportunities. Beginning with missions beyond low-Earth orbit, the United States will lead the return of humans to the Moon for long-term exploration and utilization, followed by human missions to Mars and other destinations."

Money. It's Trump so it is about money of course.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I see. I asked that because the only memory I have of trump mentioning space was that weird "space force" shit he talked about years ago

OK community rules say follow Lemmy (.World, presumably) ToS:

So:

8.0 Misinformation

In general we hope that the users will post information that THEY believe is true and helpful, but sometimes this information can be harmful to others. This is technically already covered by our rules under Section 1, but we want to clarify this more, especially when it comes to more serious matters.

I’ll report!

Anyone know if this community is responsive to reports? Also Lemmy.World itself has anti-disinfo policies right?

He actually proposed budget cuts to NASA as the mission was happening.

This article is from 2024 and talks about Congress reducing budget by 2%.

I'm talking about 47% cut to NASA science program proposed by trump for 2027: https://www.space.com/astronomy/deja-vu-trump-proposes-cutting-nasa-science-funding-by-47-percent-again

Also the Congress actually decides the budget, president proposes what they want it to be.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Yep, like I said Biden signed off on an actual budget reduction to NASA

Also the Congress actually decides the budget,

The President can veto it if he doesn't like it. Constantly lowering our standards to give mediocrities like Biden a pass is what got us to this point, it's bad when Trump talks about wanting to cut spending but it is also bad when Biden actually cuts spending whether he said he wanted to or not.

[–] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 months ago

You're purposefully misleading others.

  1. This cut was imposed by Congress, because Republicans who controlled the House wanted to make cuts so it was a compromise, Biden proposal didn't cut NASA budget but increased it
  2. Even with the cuts, this budget for NASA was still 9% bigger than NASA's budget at the end of 1st trump term, because Biden bumped it up earlier
  3. The 47% cut to NASA science budget is proposed by trump, it haven't got through congress yet, which could potentially cut it further, it's also cut after cut to the budget in 2026

Artemis started as Constellation under W and struggled after the 2008 financial crisis.

Politicizing this stuff is... not terribly useful...

"Orion was conceived in the early 2000s by Lockheed Martin as a proposal for the Crew Exploration Vehicle (CEV) to be used in NASA's Constellation program and was selected by NASA in 2006."

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

There is a woman and a black guy in the crew, so of course he didn't have it planned.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 4 points 4 months ago

It was also a stunning success. He obviously had no part of it.
