This sounds like a joke, but legitimately it's way too clean. Maybe not roll in mud, but some kind of filth at least needs to be mimicked.
I somehow found a page on Instagram that's been posting their patterns for different NCR trooper costume pieces.
They made a full leather chest piece, and a pocketed bandolier.
Edit: Here's a post with pictures of people who used the page's patterns to make their own costumes. And they look really good imo.
If you go to an expo or gathering it would be amazing to start every conversation with the "patrolling the Mojave" line. Then just get into a regular conversation.
Or just have a speaker attached that just plays the sound clip at random intervals.

Which type of helmet are you going for? Face wrap armor I guess would be logical in a semi-desert/desert environment.
WAY too hot for a face wrap armor lmao, the convention near me is happening in the summer. I just ordered a pith helmet from amazon
