Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

Let me ask one question: If you had your own world at your disposal to play with it like a god, would you stay aside for eternity, or would you jump in to stir some shit up? When I play SimCity, or Worldbox, or other sandbox, I always get bored and start dropping all sorts of calamities. I'm telling you, he's either going full VR as Donald Trump or maybe Mark Zuckerberg, or he opens dev console and makes plague with transmissibility set to 9999. Except he'd never called it COVID. More like 'Rectal_Intruder_6969'.

What if god was one of us? Just a slob like one of us? Drove a tie-dye microbus?

He could be me! He could be you!

Playing as a character is probably the point of the simulation, significant cheat codes quickly become boring so they likely would be living as an ordinary person and so difficult to distinguish. Their knowledge and skill set might even be limited to simulation appropriate levels. The scale of the simulation is important too, if it is not limited to just the Earth but simulates the entire galaxy or universe then it is likely we are too mundane of a locality to be visited and are actually just living our lives as background scenery. Or perhaps most of our history and evolution was ticked away theoretically and we are only actually simulated when we are visited. It is hard to believe dinosaurs lived 365 days a year, all that time on their hands, all those long summer afternoons to idle through.

Holy crap, you're right!

God being "god" with all that omni- stuff, I don't know, probably doesn't give a shit and spends all day depressed, staring at a model train set. Certainly if there are rules to this, nothing about it's been relayed down to me.

I'd guess it probably got bored of being all powerful in some early playthroughs and now role play on hard mode for the challenge

If we live in a simulation the admin is probably trying to make his penis reach his own butthole unsuccessfully but he keeps trying.

If this is the simulation the entity that is running it is ineffably more complicated than you can possibly imagine with your tiny simulation of a brain.

No I'm not.

Maybe we are the equivalent of an aquarium screensaver.

Musk, with the cheat code for infinite money.

But even then, nobody likes him.

I couldn't have that much money and not like build homes or revitalize libraries or something. Its like he enjoys having a target on his back.
