Women only trans inclusive This is an inclusive community for all things women. Whether you're here for make up tips, feminism or just friendly chit chat, we've got you covered.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.

Last week I asked for a raise. I have never done that before. I asked for way more than I thought I would get. Anyways, they gave me a little less than what I asked for, but they did give it to me! I was really surprised, and glad I didn’t have to job hop.

Congrazulations!!!! Clearly well deserved!!

Congrats! Make it a regular thing. If you aren't getting at least a 3% raise annually, you are falling behind on cost of living and inflation. If your company doesn't automatically give it to you after a performance review or after fiscal year close, make sure you advocate for yourself.

A lot of people out there don't know their worth. Don't be one of them.

I’m so bad at this. The fear of losing my job is so ingrained that I often feel like I’m frozen in place hoping to keep my head down and work enough so I don’t end up homeless.

Living in the US is fucking awesome /s

I should push for a raise soon though. It’s been too long and I’m feeling the pinch with rising costs!

I remember reading a while back that one person asking for a raise can be fired, but two or more people together asking for raises is considered collective bargaining and is protected under the law?

These days 3% is falling behind.

Yeah, it looks like I'm going to have to start doing that. My company gives annual cost of living increases, but they're barely above the official inflation numbers (and therefore considerably below the actual cost of living). As I get better at my job, I should be making more money, not knocking my performance review out of the park to get the same amount at best.

I'm not convinced my worth isn't $[very low]/hr tbh.

I definitely will. I asked for one after 5 months after a little discussion of what other people were making.

Yes, always talk with your coworkers about your wages. It's such a good thing to do.
