Mystery surrounding Senator Mitch McConnell’s health is deepening as the US Congress prepares to return from recess next week.

McConnell, 84, has not been seen in public since he was admitted to hospital in the Washington area on 14 June. Nearly a month later, the Kentucky Republican’s office has released only sparse updates, saying he is “continuing to improve” and remains engaged with Senate business, while refusing to disclose the nature of his illness or explain why he remains hospitalised.

The nature of his illness: he's dead

[–] DocMcStuffin@lemmy.world 44 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 22 points 2 weeks ago

Which means he is clinically dead.

[–] Jhex@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

hoping for locked in syndrome

[–] anomnom@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago

Only if the democrats take back control and dismantle his shit. If that happens I wish him locked in syndrome for as long as medically possibly.

[–] Lemming6969@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

They'd put him on heart lung bypass before giving up his seat. Even if he was dead prior.

[–] thr0w4w4y2@sh.itjust.works 64 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

He died, and the government is not releasing details so that there is no possibility of a challenge for his position before the summer recess.

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 43 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No, it's because if he vacates the seat before 8/3/26 a special election must be held by law.

In the normal election, Maise can't run because he lost his primary

In a special election he can run, split the Republican vote out of spite, and a dem gets the senate seat.

[–] 4am@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The chickenshit turtle’s going to ratfuck democracy even in death.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

He died as he lived

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 11 points 2 weeks ago

I hope once they're called out on their lies they face some serious consequences for it.

Oh wait...

[–] MushuChupacabra@piefed.world 61 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The only "mystery" is the date and time when he died.

Because he's dead.

[–] GuyFawkesV@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

Detective Fawkes here; based on my investigation he passed the night of June 13, 2026 or morning of June 14, 2026.

[–] DontRedditMyLemmy@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

At least he still meets the requirements to vote in KY

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 51 points 2 weeks ago

McConnell fucking over democracy one last time on his way out is the only way he would want to go.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 42 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Continuing to improve

it's called decomposition

[–] bold_atlas@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Reflecting pool mystery solved. He's probably wedged up in DC's waterworks because they tossed him in the river too close to an intake.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 35 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

If he was getting better and getting out they would have said so.

He’s not getting better and not getting out, maybe even brain dead, so they say nothing rather than outright lie about his condition.

Absolutely nothing will happen to anyone says says they spoke to him and in fact didn’t.

[–] postmateDumbass@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

They will have Elon fake a neuro link connection and claim they have telneted inand mitch has told them how to vote.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 29 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

LOL, "mystery".

Why don't these people send reporters to find where this motherfucker is checked in at?

[–] PurpleHawkeye619@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Can you "check in" at a cemetery?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 26 points 2 weeks ago

8/4/26 they'll announce he's brain dead

[–] rayyy@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Cue the Monty Python dead parrot sketch.

[–] Bahnd@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago

Im fully expecting him to show back up Weekend at Burnies style. Complete with his hair stapled to his head and his shoes tied to someone elses.

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

This whole thing just shows us what exactly what will happen if/when trump keels over. It will be covered up as long as possible. Just like Iran's new Ayatollah, who has never been seen, even to show up for his father's funeral.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's OK, we already have even worse people to continue his work.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yep. A whole lot of the left - at least the online ones - seem to be preoccupied with "boomers" and other ageist nonsense (as if an entire generation can have their politics defined by the 20 year period they happened to be born in).

Meanwhile, the conservatives and their party are working to crank out people that are barely past the zygote phase and have them work in their think tanks, crank out Alternative Facts on Bullshit Mountain Media, have them installed in every institution of the land (including lifetime positions), and have them alter our government, our schools, our universities, our workplaces...

Weekend at Mitch’s

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They’ll pump his corpse with enough steroids to kill a horse, put him in a track suit and walk him through the front door of the capital next week you watch.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

I hope they saddle him up in one of those robot exoskeletons and let him flop around in an oversized suit. Maybe they can add a pull string in the back so that his aids can trigger a reaction bark when needed.

[–] SuspiciousCatThing@pawb.social 8 points 2 weeks ago

Can't wait for him to run for another election 🙄

[–] hypna@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

What's the advantage of pretending McConnell isn't dead or incapacitated? The Kentucky legislature already took the power to appoint vacancies from the Governor when a Democrat won. Who wants to delay or avoid a special election? I don't get it.

[–] civilfolly@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

They are scared a Democrat will be voted in early for the special election.

Edit: I think I read somewhere there is some worry the KY constitution allows the governor to appoint and would take precedent over the KY congress’s law.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

There is no mystery. He’s dead and republicans are doing some on brand shady shit to make sure Massie can’t run for his seat. To accomplish this they can’t pull the plug until august 3rd

[–] LovelyMover@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 weeks ago

he's dead ffs, why are we continuing to entertain the obvious lies about this?

[–] GutterRat42@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago
[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 2 points 2 weeks ago

Just retire, mitch

[–] RejZoR@lemmy.ml 2 points 2 weeks ago

Weekend at Mitchy's

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 1 points 2 weeks ago

You think maybe they should chop off his dick and preserve it in amber or clear resin? For later. It's a new thing from the surgeon general. I wouldn't question it. Just chop it off

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Whether he's dead or not, he already did a significant amount of damage. His death doesn't change anything does it?

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Why do you think the Republican cunts are hiding it?

It's because it'd trigger an election, but they want to run down the clock
