9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

Sergio Furnari said he thought the lifesize sculpture – which no one commissioned – would raise ‘millions’ of dollars

To add injury to insult, Furnari recently broke his foot working on the statue, after tripping over a roll of tape in his studio.

“Is it cursed? Maybe. I don’t know,” he told the Guardian.

He's angry because he decided to spend all his money making a statue of a person he says even he didn't like and for some unknown reason expected people to rain money down on him for doing this, and people aren't.

“I was thinking that it was going to resonate with the world, with whoever, but man, people are strange out there,” he said. “Meaning like, nobody is really coming up with support, especially financial support. So far I’ve spent all my money on this.”

What a fucking idiot.

Summary: Artist tried to cash in on a person's death only to find that the hateful people that were supposed to like the hateful person dont actually care about him one way or the other ... and everyone with sense actually hates the guy.

Jesus that's one fucked up statue. Did dude ever take an anatomy class? That's worse than that statue of the soccer player that looks melted.

This was supposed to be a statue of Lucille Ball for her hometown.

Well, if he adds the bullet hole to the throat he may have better luck.

Would inserting a tube and turning it into a fountain be in bad taste?

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Going by the man himself's beliefs, no. “I can’t stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new-age term that…does a lot of damage.”

There you go folks. Kirk endorses the fountain idea. Let’s let the red kool aid flow so folks suffering from a thirst can find respite in the Kirk Fountain.

it's extremely shoddily made due to blatant inaccuracies.

obviously this statue needs a LOT more work to have any worthwhile representation of charlie kirk.

first of all, it's missing the very important actively gushing neck hole.

second of all, he looks lucid and composed instead of convulsing due to sudden loss of oxygenated blood pressure in his brain.

i don't think anyone will buy it until these glaring issues are amended.

The fake online reality conservatives have created always falls apart on contact with reality

Didn't think his scam through. He needed MAGA to front him the money for making it, then not have it sell. No one who 'venerates' Kirk would actually put their own money on the line for him.

Hey guys, wanna buy my Hitler statue? I've spent $100k on it and I'm so proud of it.

I still don't know who this mofo is, but he looks even more dumb as hell every time I see him.

...kind of like how people say Mona Lisa's eyes follow you, only I feel like he is projecting stupidity towards me.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He didn't just look dumb. He also looked weird. There were a lot of memes about how his face was too small for his head. Now I don't normally think it's too relevant how weird a person looks, but in this case, the guy is trying to sell a weird looking sculpture.

[–] Sirdubdee@piefed.social 13 points 1 week ago

Why did he make the face so small compared to the head?

[–] Alwaysnownevernotme@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

Needs a water feature to complete the aesthetic.

[–] Aarrodri@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Sounds like a grifter. I hope he never ever gets commissioned again.

He got off lucky, sculptures have been known to do worse

How come this git is still in the news? He was not someone of any importance, not domestically and definitely not internationally.

This artist sucks, he didn't get Charlie Kirk's face nearly small enough on that stupid head of his.

[–] EvergreenGuru@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

If he wanted attention, he should’ve started by saying the statue was commissioned and canceled, before even starting. Then he could’ve used the money to make the statue or have just taken the money and ran. Also, what an odd golden calf.

Unfortunately this Charlie Kirk statue is made of cheap materials spray-painted to look like metal. So if you tried to melt it down you'd just end up tragically burning it to ash. It would actually burn at a much lower temperature than you'd need to melt a proper statue, so everyone needs to be very careful around it with lighters, gasoline, etc., lest there be a mishap.

By looking at the statue one can tell he is a mediocre artist so I assume he tried to grift instead of shining with his artistic skills.

Wow the more I read the article the more shocked I am at how delusional this guy is. His chain of logic as to why he built the statue and what he expected from it are completely insane. He clearly expected right wing people to rain money on him for this statue. %100 grift. He may also be interested in having sex with Erica.

Charlie Kirk was just a baloon and this guy found that out quite painfully. The icing on the cake? He is angry that people are cheap lol:

“Things financially are a total, absolute nightmare. It’s like wow. People are cheap, man. You know, people talk, talk – I know lots of people out there, and everybody’s so cheap. You know, like, it’s disgusting how cheap they are.”

[–] MrSulu@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 week ago

Surely, SURELY there must be a rifle range that wants this?

[–] N0t_5ure@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If this is installed in public we can safely assume that the microphone will be painted to look like a penis.

Furnari’s latest plan is to place the statue in Times Square on 10 September

You know what to do New York

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 8 points 1 week ago

Yea no one cares. Not even his wife.
