My husband, who’s 138, recently got into summoning through a guildmember, and ever since then things have felt… off. I genuinely can’t tell if this is normal for new summoners or if I should be concerned.
It started with him buying a book that cost more than our entire study. Then came the robes. Super wide, with aggressively bright patterns, and leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination when he bends down to pick something up. He insists this is just what Summoners wear, but it feels very intentional, like he wants to be seen.
Then he grew out his beard. I only noticed because the razor in the shower (which is mine) was completely untouched and there was an alarming lack of hair. When I asked, he got weirdly defensive and just said, “Everyone does it.”
The language is what’s really throwing me. The other night I overheard him on the orb after a “session” saying, “I wanted to stay relaxed and just let him possess my body until I gained forbidden knowledge,” followed by, “I can’t wait to summon again tomorrow, scrollbro” in this weird low voice, then a quiet little laugh. The night before that, while he was researching spells in the study, I heard him and the same wizard discussing the size of their “wand” and whether he should “grease it up with wood oil before he uses it.” I truly did not know what to do with that information.
He’s also coming home late from summonings and talking funny, constantly complaining that his throat hurts so much he can barely speak. When I asked why he keeps doing it if it hurts that badly, he smiled and said, “You wouldn’t get it.”
At one point I asked what his ancient amulet was about, and he said completely seriously, “Bryzian wants my mind more open so we can really summon together on soulbindings.” As his wife, I did not know how to respond.
I’m not trying to be paranoid. I’d be hurt but accepting if this turned out to be something more than summoning. I just feel totally out of the loop and honestly confused. If this is just how summoners talk and act, I’ll drop it. I just need to know. Any insight from this community would be greatly appreciated ❤️
