I honestly can't stand americans. It sucks having to live above a bunch of nazis. and I especially hate when americans go online and are all "we're sorry" oh fuck off. you elected this clown twice, I don't fucking want your apology bud.

And this isn't a new feeling for us Canadians. Prior to all this we honestly never really liked you, we tolerated you, we were polite about it. But make no mistake we constantly mocked you, constantly called you idiots, even when I was a kid in the 80s those feelings towards americans were there. Canadians are polite, but we're not nice. We won't hesitate to tell you what we think about you.

It's just hilarious that americans are all "omg the Canadians hate us NOW" no buddy, we always have but now we feel comfortable enough to say it to your faces.

Fix your shit, we've been BEGGING you to fix your shit for decades.

No, thanks to the people who elected Trump. This isn't going away when Trump dies.

It's not just the people, it's the culture. Even USians that voted against Trump are marinating in a largely badly educated culture steeped in racism, unquestioning patriotism that often and overtly overflows into nationalism, a belief in exceptionalism, militarism and predatory capitalism. Fostering egotism, not necessarily stupidity but a hugely self-centered ignorance and aggressive distrust of a society that is overly individualist and a state that is corrupt.

Trump and his ilk are not the cause, but the symptom of this underlying sickness. And to heal that would take an enormous national effort to move away from money in politics, away from a national narrative of being better and more free, away from pride and towards rolling up your sleeves and going to work to fix things and where necessary reform not only society but how people are taught and think towards critical analysis and towards a more balanced approach between individual and societal freedoms.

An effort so enormous that I cannot fault the people who say this cannot be reformed peacefully and will likely result into a violent negotiation of the path forward. (Not that this would be preferred or even welcome, just that it is likely to either happen if, or be needed as a prerequisite that, meaningful change happens)

And the US is far from the only country that needs to change it's just the worst offender concerning pride in how fucked up they are AND as the cultural and military hegemon of the west their behavior affects others the most.

I dont hate Americans. I hate stupid people, ignorant people, and people who think theyre better than than other people for something as mundane as being born somewhere..

This describing ~75% of Americans is not related.. Especially as it describes 40% of Canadians..

Edit: oxford comma

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Have you seen Ontario's Premiere? Or Alberta's?

[–] Muscle_Meteor@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah we have a fptp electoral system, you can win majorities with like 30% of the vote. Combine that 40% with another 40% that is average or apathetic and boom easy conservative victories.

But yes Alberta is definitely why i bumped it up to 40%

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

We elected an asshole who said he would fix fptp...he didn't, so we elected him again. Canada has nothing to be smug about.

Whos smug? its the difference between average and terrible

I mean, America has always seemed like a smug racist shithole but the hate has certainly increased since 2016.

We don't hate them really, we just hate what they have become.

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

no as a Canadian I think we do hate them. I know I do. Heck yesterday I walked past a woman who was yelling at a SUV from New Jersey calling them "fucking idiot americans" because they were blocking the cross walk. another guy just straight up spat on the thing. the yanks in the suv looked terrified, it was hilarious, serves them right.

And it seems to be a common thing with americans visiting Toronto. We don't like them, we don't want them here, they elected this douche twice. I got zero love for americans and I ESPECIALLY have zero love for any that are all "we're sorry" no you're fucking not. stop apologizing and get off your collective fat asses and go do something about it. Can't stand americans.

Bro just hate us, it's for your own good

[–] Yezzey@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

We're hoping you will change soon and regain some sanity.

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Same my man, but let's be real here, were a nation of opportunists, not self reflection

[–] Yezzey@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

There's always hope. Also change is inevitable.

[–] RunningInRVA@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

Thank, brother!

[–] P1k1e@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Agreed on both fronts, still gonna be rough going and it still may not be for the better. Here's to hoping both our country's can climb out of the pit we dragged yours into

[–] KarlHungus42@lemmy.world 15 points 6 days ago

American here. I hate America under trump too. Fuck that clown and the cult that still supports him. It might not seem like it, but we are not all like that.

Americans hate America thanks to Trump

Well, MAGA, the GOP, grifters, white christian nationalists, and the billionaire worshipping fascists, but Trump is an adequate shorthand for it, and he has a punchable stupid face.

Americans hate Americans because of Trump.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Getting closure

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

American chiming in: We hate this place too. Apparently MAGA and their merry band of idiots in charge hate the U.S. so much they want the whole thing to crumble.

[–] ben_dover@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Doesn't everyone by now?

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 20 points 6 days ago (9 children)

This article doesn't even mention how they're in they middle of pulling a Crimea in Alberta, which Carney is too afraid to interfere with.

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 7 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Because Kegsbreath would love nothing more than to march up here to "liberate" us if moves to stop it too openly. He's playing for time and hoping that we can either rally our alliances or that the old fuck dies and the US collapses when the collective delusion of MAGA finally bursts.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Don't worry! Carney turned over defence to Palantir so surely we'll be safe. 🤮

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 days ago

Ok, yes, I'm not even going to try to defend that one, that's just dumb and/or evil.

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 5 points 6 days ago (5 children)

albera isn't going to leave, itll only happen if they rig the vote, then America might try playing its hand.

I have no problem with America as a country. It's beautiful, with breathtaking natural beauty. The people there, or at least, the ones that elected this current administration, can fuck all the way off.

PLENTY of reasons, but also Trump.

[–] Smaile@lemmy.ca 13 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

has alway been silent contempt for americas leaders in Canada, the coercion for non compliance was always there and only people doing their daily grind don't notice, they've now noticed because Donald is anything but subtle

[–] GreenBeard@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 days ago

You're not wrong. I've said as much before and usually got told to shut up about it by people whose livelihoods depend on foreign trade. We walked into this situation of our own free will, but hopefully this is the motivation we need to do something about it.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 6 points 6 days ago

Once again I agree with Canada.
