BBG movie. Help. (lemmy.world)
submitted 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) by khannie@lemmy.world to c/movies@piefed.social

Some time ago I put a reminder in my calendar about the "BBG movie".

At the time in my absolute hubris assumed I would remember what BBG stood for. Search turns up nothing useful even with BFG excluded.

Decent chance it's a kids movie.

Anyone got any ideas?

Edit: it's likely something to be released soon either on streaming or cinema. I checked my local cinema listings and nothing matches.

Edit 2: calendar doesn't say when I set it unfortunately

Do you live in NYC? Brooklyn Botanic Garden has movie nights.

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I'm in Ireland but I appreciate the guess.

[–] Angryhumanoid@fedinsfw.app 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm just regurgitating Google now but Ballybeg/Ballybegly related?

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Nah. I really do appreciate the effort though. You're into "I'll buy the first round" territory. Thanks :)

[–] Angryhumanoid@fedinsfw.app 2 points 4 days ago

No problem, I just hate leaving the mystery unsolved, heh

[–] Angryhumanoid@fedinsfw.app 3 points 4 days ago

Hmm. BBG is an abbreviation for babygirl, or so the Internet tells me. No idea what movie that could be related to tho, lol.

I see you haven't found an answer to this yet. Are you sure the "BBG" was in reference to the name of a movie? That the intended meaning wasn't something like "movie with BBG (a person)", "movie at BBG (a place)", etc?

You scamp. :D

[–] bamboo@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Urban Dictionary says BBG is "baby girl": https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bbg

If that's what you meant, that's not a kids movie: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt30057084/

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Cheers. I watched this recently and it's not a movie I would have set a reminder for. I just use the IMDb watchlist in general.

It's likely something to be released soon.

What about if BBG is a place where the movie is, like a movie at a botanical garden? Birmingham Botanical Gardens (BBG)?

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Hmmm. Someone suggested something similar about Brooklyn but this poses a new train of thought. Mulling.....

[–] X@piefed.world 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Decent chance it’s a kid’s movie

There’s the BFG, AKA the Big Friendly Giant, a 2016 Steven Spielberg movie.

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Definitely not that unfortunately. It was the first hit I got but we've all seen it before. Thanks though!

BBG usually stands for "Big Bad Guy."

Is there some kind of movie about a villain you wanted to see?

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Massive props for the creativity but I can't think of any mega villain that fits the role.

I'm actually going to go back through my IMDB watchlist and see if there's anything that vaguely matches. It is extensive though. Like I'd watch 4 movies a week. I've a massive heap of kids so night is my only quiet time and that's how I spend it.

Big Black Girls? Bad Banana God? Better Be Good? Bags and Bags of Glitter? Boners Boners Gobble?

Idk man

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

What day and time is the reminder specifically? Might help a little.

BBG in D&D is Big Bad Guy. So any big villain movies? Could it be an actor's/actress's initials?

My text message app let's me search past texts, I'd try throwing "bbg" in the search there and see if I told anyone something

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

No text results. Great idea though. Thank you.

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

It was set for today about 90 minutes ago.

Love the text idea. Cheers I'll do that in a bit just cooking dinner.

Bound By Lies? Maybe a typo and it's BBL?

https://streamcal.app/title/bound-by-lies-1512014

Otherwise, new Spiderman? Brand New Day is close?

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

I thought you had it there for a minute. Spiderverse is definitely one I would have set a reminder for because I went to see it in the cinema with three of my kids for the last one but, alas, the next one's not out until next year.

Edit: bound by lies looks good, but not necessarily good enough to set a calendar reminder for. Checking watchlist....

Edit: not in watchlist but great guess. It's out next week.

Edit 3: tried other possible typos with no luck

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 3 points 3 days ago

The title doesn't line up but the third spiderverse you mention (Beyond The Spiderverse) was originally actually expected around July 2026 (like producers hinted they were targeting now and everything) and was only pushed so as not to release same year as Brand New Day.

[–] brainzzz@piefed.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I checked for BBC movie, just in case but nothing.

I think the only option is you'll have to see every movie coming out end of July.

I wonder if BBG was some kind of working title at the time 🤔

This is a hilarious problem to have, btw

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Haha. Like I'm a massive movie lover and I honestly must have thought at the time "oh! Can't wait for bbg!!!! Write that down!!!!"

Then I thought all you movie geeks would slap me upside the head in ten seconds flat with the answer but here we find ourselves.

I am definitely going to be keeping an eye on upcoming cinema releases though.

I am invested now, you better update here if you figure it out.

Have a scroll through here maybe, film and TV https://streamcal.app/?month=2026-07#calendar

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

That's a great link. Had a look and no joy but thank you.

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Haha. I promise I'll update you if I do figure it out. I never break a promise so I'm slow to make them.

[–] Lag@piefed.world 2 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Children of Blood and Bone?

There's also another Batman part 2, something about Gotham maybe.

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Not batman but I really appreciate the creativity. Many thanks.

I honestly think we're at the end here. There have been loads of solid suggestions. This feels like I put something away carefully then forgot where. Lesson learned.

[–] khannie@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago

Super looking cast but that's not it. I'll check the batman one after I cook dinner.

[–] Jackhammer_Joe@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Big Black Gazongas? 😏
