I love how everybody has a different version number they think is the best.

[–] orochi02@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I think except the classic Version the latest one is usually always the coolest vanilla wise because they DO add cool stuff. From the Versions i’ve played I would say 1.21.1 is the Best modded one tho (started playing modpacks from 1.19.2 tho)

I don't understand the people hating on the new versions. Some people can provide legit reasonings for being against new gameplay mechanics like the bed but most of it just seems like "hurr durr I don't like change". This seems even truer to me now that we have got the drops and each update is a small pack of completely ignorable features.

Have they changed the hunger system much over the years? Recently I played it and was annoyed by how often I had to eat, I didn't remember it always being like that

[–] rapchee@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

sprinting depletes your hunger, maybe that's why?

[–] 666dollarfootlong@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Yea but I don't remember it depleting so fast

[–] WolfLink@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

There’s a second, hidden hunger bar called “saturation” which controls how quickly hunger decays. Some foods provide more saturation than others. For example, melons are easy to farm, but provide little saturation. Bread and cooked meats tend to provide decent saturation.

This mechanic isn’t new though.

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Maybe you are getting a lot of dmg. In order to heal you need a full hunger bar. And healing depletes your hunger bar fast.

There's also a hidden second hunger bar. You need higher quality food to fill that one. Maybe you are using lower quality food now.

Yea I've noticed steak satiates more than cookies, but i do think its annoying how many cookies or watermelon you gotta eat all the time, some foods are just not viable enough imo

Honest had a blast with the latest version when I played it a few months ago. It was the update they added spears. They added so much since I last played the game some 5 years ago.

Check out Luanti

Dont get me wrong, its nowhere near as polished, but ive had a blast with it while playing with family and friends.

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

nowhere near as polished

understatement of the year. As much as I want Luanti to succeed (because I'm actively looking for a minecraft replacement), it's not there yet.

On that subject:

Tesera has promise, but is in early development and thus quite jank.

Brickadia is pretty much just creative mode with a lego theme, and has its own jank.

Lay of the Land could have been the best, but it lacks multiplayer.

Veloren has all the gameplay I could ask for, but not building (as far as I know).

[–] orochi02@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago

Being honest upfront about being an alternative that might not be as polished but still fun is nice. I’ve Seen Hella glazers here

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 day ago

BTW Lunati is more like Roblox then Minecraft, but you can always recreate Minecraft there.

[–] Cris_Citrus@piefed.zip 18 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Jesus Christ, Minecraft requires 16GB now??? Please tell me thats not the minimum and is just reccomended... Still egregious though

[–] bob_lemon@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago

Minimum is listed as 8GB. 16GB is recommended.

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Not if you play modded java edition, you can get by with 8gb in your system and 4gb allocated to the game.

Windows enshittification/Bedrock edition slop is probably why they're setting the bar so high.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Bedrock is way more optimised than java

It was made to work on phones

[–] Truscape@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago

That was true at a certain point during its life, but after the RTX support was added performance optimization came crashing down.

Sodium on Java runs laps around bedrock nowadays.

[–] Sustolic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Vanilla maybe, but lightly modded Java has been more optimized than bedrock since at least 1.16.5

was more optimized, java runs fine on phones, you just need a couple performance mods

[–] Sustolic@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Yeah you can get away with a lot when it comes to 1.21.1+ coupled with Java 25

[–] orochi02@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Next, tech modpacks gun take fucking 32gb ram

[–] Sanctus@anarchist.nexus 33 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

1.12.1 is still there with everything you could ever need.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 day ago

Or play modded and never update past 1.12.2

There are enough modpacks for 1.7 to not even have to use the new combat system

1.6 has better than wolves, which is a big enough mod to not need any other

If you hate 1.0, there is a mod that tries to completely change minecraft, using a version before the full release if i remember correctly

[–] Cheebus@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

it’s the microslop way!

[–] serpineslair@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

MC peaked at 1.16.5 imo.

[–] lime@feddit.nu 9 points 2 days ago

everything has gone downhill since 0.30.

[–] warm@kbin.earth 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Takes them years to add 2 new blocks, now they want to completely abandon performance too. Not that it had that much, mods take care of that.

[–] JiveTurkey@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Haven't they been doing a lot of work to move from openGL to vulkan in order to improve performance?

[–] chunes@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

If moving to vulkan requires significantly higher specs, how is that improving performance?

[–] Honytawk@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 day ago

Because it can utilize the higher specs.

On a high spec machine, the bottleneck would be the game.

it has been more of slow creep of hardware requirements, I guess now that they are actually looking into the performance of the game they are actually realized they should updated it long ago, if anythinf recently performance has made great strides with mojang finnally addressing some low hanging bottlenecks that mods had been fixing for years

[–] warm@kbin.earth 1 points 1 day ago

I dont keep up that much tbh, all I know is some modders in their free time blow anything Mojang do out of the water. Considering Mojang copy mods a lot, I would have thought they would have copied a performance one.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 day ago

In those 2 years, they have also made so many amazing changes to help modding and datapack development

[–] RonnyZittledong@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

My nephew just got this a month or so ago and my brother's computer is pretty shit. It ran well enough to please a 7 year old with all the graphics turned down as low as they would go but with these new specs they would have to get a new computer to keep playing it and that is not going to happen.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Probably upgraded for Vibrant Visuals.
