NetworkManager on Kubuntu doesn't run on startup (piefed.social)

I installed some updates and after a restart the network manager thing in the taskbar said NetworkManager wasnt running so i tried to run it in terminal and it said i didnt have permission so i ran it with sudo and it worked. How do I get it to automatically start?

I just want to preface this by saying this is completely off the top of my head, so I may be slightly off, please do your own research before running anything blindly.

You may need to enable the service. Do a quick reboot, and then check the status of Network manager:

sudo systemctl status NetworkManager

If you see that is says Disabled (usually in red text) then you will indeed need to enable it. First start the service:

sudo systemctl start NetworkManager

And then so it starts when you boot in, we finally enable:

sudo systemctl enable NetworkManager

Once that's done, test by rebooting again and hopefully it should be up and running :)

sudo systemctl start NetworkManager

And then so it starts when you boot in, we finally enable:

sudo systemctl enable NetworkManager

also from the top of my head - you can combine the two by adding a flag

sudo systemctl enable --now NetworkManager

That will enable and start it.

Also make sure no conflicting network service is running. Common culprits are dhcpcd, netctl, and systemd-networkd. If they're active, NM might not start and you might stop and disable them before starting NM. Not sure if that would apply to kubuntu or your particular setup, but I wanted to mention it just in case.

I had this problem for a long time and turns out I had misconfigured my network drive mount and it was killing NetworkManager on boot. I don't remember how it was misconfigured but chatgpt helped me fix it in couple commands
