I was worried it wouldn’t hold up without the visual spectacle underscoring how technically impressive it is, but I’ve spun this latest record a few times now and it’s genuinely great. Sounds fantastic too.

Unlikely in my opinion to become valuable. People actually tried scalping them initially, but they just keep pressing more. I mean, there's always the possibility that you're pressing happens to be superior for some reason and highly wanted, but I think the odds are against you.
My suspicion is they're going to keep pressing the first two albums as long as people are still buying them. Given the hype train that they're on it's a free money printer.
Copies of their debut shot up to over 1k between the KEXP video and the release of album 2.
I'm looking at dozens of eBay sold listings RN and there is zero action in that sort of pricing.
I’m not disputing your point, sorry. I meant to highlight the rampant speculation in the market almost right away, before 2 came out. It has died down since then as more supply has become readily available. Someone made money off the early days though.

Why do you think they'll become valuable? Did you buy a first pressing? Vol 1 is at 11th pressing already... In general what becomes valuable is a combination of growing appreciation+ scarcity. Without scarcity, it just becomes a good well ageing, yet relatively easy to obtain record?
Played it for toddler sitting yesterday. It helped me escape the children's songs for a good 30 mins and the little one was truly impressed!
We exposed our child the music we liked in as many genres as possible so the kid skipped the toddler music phase with the exception of some classic children songs but in a heavy metal cover which he adored. One thing I feared becoming a parent was to sit through endless repeats of baby sharks etc, not something my brain can handle but we got spares. On long car drives he now asks for AdP as well as King Grizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
The toddler I'm taking care of sometimes already came with a pre-installed musical taste. Unfortunately a lot of Disney and Musical stuff. We usually agree on a mixed playlist - some of his, some of mine. Not a problem, they have the right to their own taste, even if it's crap! I remember my dad being a bit of a muscial guide, but also something of a 'music police' when I was a kid, and as a result I did develop a large and interesting musical taste but also became socially awkward and missed the entire development of electronic music ... And I secretly like the veeery long song with the small red tractor feeding all the animals, it's kind of catchy - the new Schnappi even, who knows!
My own child, already grown(ish), who was exposed to pretty much the entire musical spectrum is now into electronic stuff. He has a little box full of buttons he presses to produce peculiar loops and sounds, anything from 5-dimensional farting to voices of anatomically correct angels. It was a gift from his former 'electronic music is of the devil' grandpa, hehe.

I wasn't super impressed at first listen, but I'm glad if AdP can open a larger audience to weirdo math rock and Middle Eastern influences.
Tbh, at first they did not resonate much to me. But I knew that I was listening something very out of the ordinary and just had the feeling that I had to explore it. I wouldn't sat that AdP are quintessential to me, but they definitely are something worth listening to. Just for fun, and awkwardness. So I'm liking it more and more :D
Agreed, it's not often that bands (with general appeal) dare make music that take their listeners out of their comfort zone. AdP may be a gateway drug for some people, and just a novelty for others. Either way, good on you for trying something out of the ordinary!
They're truly awesome. Now most normal music feels too simplistic and predictable.
Various forms of progressive music have always been around. You may just be under acquainted with the greater world.
My main music listening habit is experimental indie music. So I'm well familiar with it. But the beauty of AdP is microtonality, not so much progressiveness. And microtonality is more rare. And they unique in marrying the two so well. There are other bands that done it in the past, but none so well.

Pull up some dope sitar stuff. Hell, Serj Tankien sings in all sorts of microtonal arrangements (although you said no words so that may not count.).
It seems to me as if you just want to be contrarian or hipper than thou but have no substance underlying your sneer of a commentary.
You’re describing a bunch of separate ingredients that are out there showing up in great music like that you mentioned. You should think about turning that into a useful and relevant point that actually supports your original criticism.
Are you asking us to believe that Ravi Shankar - as amazing as he is - scratches the same itch as this because, what, he also makes micro-tonal music like a shit ton of non western artists do, or is “progressive” relative to western music. It just makes no sense.
By your logic, there is nothing impressive about George Harrison incorporating sitar into rock music in the 1960s, which explains why Tomorrow Never Knows is widely remembered as a shitty knock off.
