Am I the only person who gets mildly miffed at 'slayed' when it was previously 'slew'? I guess it's the slow march toward removing rarely-used irregulars which isn't a bad thing.
Is it odd that I associate both separately, 'slayed' to either a queer icon being a boss (I still haven't warmed up to the alternative of "serving cunt") or Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I associate 'slew' with death by sword and, slightly related, Lily Allen's Fuck You

Arguably, there is no wrong, there's just usage. You used it and I understood it, so that's fine. I grew up with fantasy novels and the kjv bible, so I probably had a lot of the older usage in my mind.
and what ever happened to slaw? are we going to do that as cool one of these generations or am i just unbearably old.

I wish I knew more going back even into the nineteenth century. I recently read the Arsene Lupin books (1905), and although that's French translated to British English, I found the slang charming. Although I think cool was only used in regards to someone being calm and controlled...
Slayed is used a verb, it's not used as an adjective.
have you read much P. G. Wodehouse? It took me a chapter or two for my brain to adjust to the nineteenth century literature but that guy turns a phrase like nobody else. uses the same plot a lot, but it doesn't matter because you always like the way he says it.
I thought about using bussin', but I thought that was only for food.

My wife and I were trying to come up with other slang that has held up like this for basically 100 years. Couldn't come up with any.
O.K. started off as weird-ass trendy slang thing in the 1800s but now is just a straight up regular word. But cool is just...cool.
Non-native speaker here, most phrasal verbs sound like slang to me, because they just pick a verb that kinda resembles the action but isn't quite it, and you use your imagination to give meaning to it... like "hang out".
