Joan Rivers.

I hate being a housewife. Make the beds, wash the dishes, cook dinner, and do the laundry. Then six months go by and you have to do it all over again.

[–] mrmisses@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I don't get it. Was she known for being home once every 6 months?

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 16 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It was a joke she made for comedy by making the frequency absurdly infrequent. .

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

Just do what the nice people tell you to do...

Get two dishwashers and as dishes get dirty they migrate from one to the other. Never put them into or take them out of another useless non-washing cabinet again.

[–] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Good idea.

Make the dish cabinet ANOTHER dishwasher.

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Exactly! It is so dumb that we're schlepping dishes into useless cabinets.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Cabinets where they get dusty.

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

My in laws went the alternative route and made their dishwasher a storage cabinet!

Life is just one big, long, futile fight against the ever-increasing entropy of an inevitably doomed universe and the best we can hope for is to carve out some sort of fleeting happiness and meaning in our short lives before they're over.

[–] Benign@fedia.io 7 points 1 week ago

Sorry, i already had my existential crisis for today.

[–] raid_dad@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

It’s like you’re in my head… while I’m washing more fucking dishes.

[–] tetris11@feddit.uk 3 points 1 week ago

its just dishes man

Whenever "what's your favorite technology" comes up, I'm like, there's a magic box in my kitchen I can stuff full of dirty dishes and they're clean the next day. And you can tell by their reaction whether they grew up with a dishwasher, or if they were the dishwasher.

Dishes and laundry man

The superhero we need, but not the one we deserve

[–] AmosBurton_ThatGuy@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Laundry is easy, slap it into the washing machine and throw some detergent in then walk away till it's done. Once it's done, slap it into the dryer with a dryer sheet and clean out the lint then wait for it to be done. Ez-pz. Helps I dont give a shit about folding my clothes though, I just use two separate laundry baskets, one for clean and the other for dirty, like the degenerate that I am.

Dishes though. Fuck me I hate doing them, even if you have a machine to do it. If you forget (or your roommate and brother 😡) to rinse your dishes off and just throw it into the sink then you gotta either let em soak or scrub them off with hot water and a scrubby. At that point you may as well not even bother with the god damn machine.

I'm generally good about it, not always, but both my roommate and brother don't give af despite me bitching at them to at least rinse their shit off after using a dish.

Fuck dishes.

That's why I just eat off my shirt. Already have to wash it so 2 for 1. And I don't have to worry about something falling on my shirt, it's great peace of mind.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

This is why I also eat off of your shirt. I assume you're going to wash it at some point anyways, so it's not like I'm making any more work for anyone. And you should be happy to know that your work is going even farther than you realized!

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

Hah, a long time ago I tried to avoid building up a bunch of dirty dishes by having just one of each (one plate, one cup, one fork, etc.) but instead of washing those I ended up re-using them without washing. I know a person who is unashamed to use disposable dishes for everything and I don't know if that's degradation or liberation.

Did you know that rats will leave your dishes spotless? That's the real life hack here.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Using disposable ones for everything is eco-terrorism

[–] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Depends, I think if they're compostable it might be OK. Plastic or styrofoam would be horrific

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It srill is completely uneccessary waste

If ants wouldn't eventually find my good food stores and just kept to cleaning up the crumbs, we could have a simbiotic relationship instead of me occasionally waging chemical warfare on them.

Spotless, only if you don't mind their urine all over your dishes. I guess what you can't see doesn't exist though, right? /s

Dusting is the one that pisses me off. I don't know how people manage to keep a big ass house dust free; it's a long-ass chore even in my tiny apartment.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 week ago

I have a big house, I replace the AC/Heating air filters very often and have a roomba that vacuums daily.

It's not dust free, but you can get away with only dealing with it on a monthly basis

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

Dishes you may have to do, but remember, it doesn’t get any dirtier after 3 years.

[–] HulkSmashBurgers@reddthat.com 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Also the laundry (folding it specifically).

[–] BeardedBlaze@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Epic waste of time.

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

I enjoy doing the dishes quite a bit, but my back doesn't. I hate being so freaking tall.

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don’t mind doing dishes (or anything else in the kitchen), it’s the laundry I fucking hate doing. Seriously, the absolute worst chore ever. My mother is the exact opposite, she genuinely enjoys doing laundry but hates dealing with the kitchen (except cooking, she loves to cook). So my dad always cleans the kitchen every night, I haven’t seen her clean the kitchen (or bathrooms actually either) since I’ve been alive. I’m trying to be similar, I try to always clean the kitchen every night so my wife doesn’t have to, because that’s her least favourite chore. Unfortunately her second least favourite chore is laundry, so we both struggle to get it done.

[–] kestrel7_7@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We need a dating app that matches people based on their favorite/least favorite domestic chores

[–] wols@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

So that's what they meant by "opposites attract"

[–] Thebeardedsinglemalt@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't know why I hate it but I'll let the sink fill with dishes because I dread unloading the dishwasher...a 90 second task that seems like it take 20 minutes and requires extrenuous effort.

So we're really Sisyphus dishposting today huh

[–] scytale@piefed.zip 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Mowing for me, especially in the middle of summer. If only the HOA fees for a townhouse (without lawns) weren’t so expensive, I would’ve chosen that instead of a SFH.

Have a dishwasher. I enjoy emptying and filling it up as its one of the few moments I get to catch up on podcasts.

[–] gigastasio@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Think I’m gonna print this out and put it over my sink.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If I ever get rich, I'm getting a maid and a chef. Or honestly if if android service bots become affordable, I'd get one. Idc if I'm at risk of a robot uprising...household chores are too annoying and never ending!!

[–] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

I kinda like cooking and baking.
BUT THE CLEANING....Fuck that (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻)

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 2 points 1 week ago

Paper plates when I was younger. Didn't have time for dishes.

[–] SourDrink@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

We must imagine the dishes happy.
