People need to police their neighborhoods. Using AI as the touchpoint for routing emergencies sends a really clear message; the cops aren't prioritizing the public safety aspect of their job. But then again, acab exists because they've always prioritized the power of the state and the financially connected.

That title is written by someone who failed basic grammar. It should be "New Orleans will use AI instead of humans to answer 911 calls".
What it says as it's written is "AI will only answer 911 calls but not a human"... which doesn't make any sense.

Have these people never used AI on phones before? Its horrible. Worse than horrible.

Wow. This was a really bad decision. I can't imagine how many people are going to die from this

I hate this stupid AI hype.

what's the polymarket over/under for how many people have to die before they roll this back?

[–] DementedSociety@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Fucking disgusting. The people making these decisions should be responsible for every person this causes harm too.

Hey I bet Kanye West and a bewildered Mike Myers can explain why....

...too bad Kanye West isn't around anymore

Possible second-tier harm here: are they sending 911 calls directly to a company? That's gotta be illegal, no?
