Women only trans inclusive This is an inclusive community for all things women. Whether you're here for make up tips, feminism or just friendly chit chat, we've got you covered.

Rules…

  1. Women only… trans women are women, and transphobic or gender critical talk isn’t allowed. Anyone under the trans umbrella (e.g. non-binary, bigender, agender) is free to decide whether a women's community is a good fit for them.
  2. Don’t be a dick. No personal attacks, no aggression, play nice.
  3. Don’t hate on groups, hatefilled talk about groups is not allowed. Ever.
  4. No governmental politics, so no talk of Trump actions etc. We recommend Feminism@beehaw.org for that, but here is an escape from it.
  5. New accounts or users with few comments may have their posts removed to prevent spam and bad-faith participation.

Hope you don't mind me going on about this some more here. The idea I had yesterday is changing and I don't want to make another thread. Plus, I value the opinion of the people in this community more in this regard.

I think making a community for both alt and nerd stuff is too much. What I am thinking right now to get my feet wet with this is a community to post everything under the alternative umbrella, from metal to punk to indie rock etc. Thinking of even including alt pop.

I have many reasons for thinking it's necessary. One is so that for example, someone can post a Scene Queen or Poppy song somewhere without gatekeepers showing up to go on about true metal and how it was back in their day. There's some exciting things happening in newer music, especially where women are involved. The walls are coming down between metal and punk and pop and it's getting harder to put things into neat boxes. I don't even like all of it but it makes balding old men cry into their Metallica collections, which makes it some of the most relevant rebel upstart music around today. I also want a space for people to post queer and trans alt music without conservative 'alt' LARPers clutching their pearls.

There's also the fact that the one person who showed up in that thread to recommend !metal@lemmy.world was one of these anti safe spaces, "the left are evil commies" people.

And I don't want to rival !gpral@hilariouschaos.com, that seems to be more for memes and fashion. So I'm thinking just music, and maybe rants that wouldn't be allowed in the spaces that don't want things 'political'. But with rules to keep the manosphere people and anti 'woke' people out.

What I'm stuck on is a name. I need something that'll cover everything from alt pop to death metal. Is "Rebel Music" too basic? That's what I want to emphasize. That it's community for rebel alt people and not gatekeeping dick swingers. And to quote Skin from Skunk Anansie, that "yes it's fucking political".

!alternativenation@lemmy.world might be similar to what you're looking for, though I don't want to discourage you making your own community! I'd def throw posts in there if you make it :)

It is quieter here, but the quality of interactions is higher. I've come to prefer this place over Reddit in a lot of ways with the one exception of the niche hobby subreddits. I miss those a lot. So I post what I want to talk about here and help make it more lively instead.

I still browse Reddit here and there, but after some persistence, I feel like I've found a good groove here. I hope you find more to keep you here as well!

I've checked out Alternative Nation. Seems like a nice community but again, although I've got some Shoegaze / Doomgaze stuff to add, I worry about pushing the boundaries a bit there. Feels like people in that community might be expecting mostly indie rock and not punk or screamy metal songs.

Might even just be doing this for myself to get over my weirdness about never feeling like I fit anywhere lol. Although it would be nice if people joined. Think I might get the ball rolling tomorrow, it either flops or provides people a space they were looking for. Can't hurt to try.

niche hobby subreddits

Oh I absolutely miss this too. You could practically find a community around just about any random thing you could think of. And Lemmy is just too small for that. Kind of another reason I think some things could stand to be combined around here. So that the metal community and punk community can combine their total of 4 active commenters lol.

Personally, I started throwing songs into the !music@lemmy.world community simply because it was most active. I post a lot of punk and indie type music. Figured if there were more people into it, eventually a more niche community could form. Until then, I'll keep signaling to my fellow punk enthusiasts like a lonely lighthouse haha

Haha I was using !eternalplaylist@crazypeople.online in pretty much the same way. But always feel bad posting heavy stuff there because that's just not the general vibe of that community. And they're really cool about it too, which makes me want to respect that space even more.

This platform is still so quiet 😭 I'm honestly considering trying to make a Reddit account again 2 or 3 years since I was banned lol. Just to have conversations to join about niche shit. I bet I could even find a Blackwater Holylight subreddit.

Yes it is quiet and that's a big disadvantage. I really miss a lot about reddit. The quality is far better though and there are less bots, ads and hysteria. It's worth just starting threads about things you want to talk about It's reaoly rare I post and don't get a response. The quietness here is hard though

rare I post and don't get a response

This is very true. You definitely know that you're alive here lol. Same problem as ever, a lot more lurkers and commenters than people posting content to lurk and comment on. So people are waiting for something to click on and give their two cents about.
