Tl;dr: 75-yo old woman attacks the employees over a sandwich, rips hair from one of them, put that hair in her purse, calls the police and dies.

At that point, two other employees intervened, and as they were pulled apart, a “chunk of hair” was pulled from the shift lead’s head, “leaving a raw area.”

Once separated, the employees got behind the counter and Grayson sat down, taking a phone call. She was seen picking up the shift lead’s hair and putting it in her bag, police said.

'There is no audio, but the employees told investigators Grayson slammed her food on the counter and made an expletive-laced demand for a refund, accusing staff of making her sandwich “wrong on purpose,” according to the report released last week.'

Well, I have no idea how Anita Grayson lived, but i know how that bitch died. Who treats staff like this? Over a fucking sandwich?

Clearly unhinged, world is a slightly better place now.

[-] Professorozone@lemmy.world 64 points 2 weeks ago

She could have been sick. She WAS 75.

[-] EmilieEasie@fedinsfw.app 73 points 2 weeks ago

I would bet money on it. A lot of traumatic brain injuries or degeneration can just look like someone being an unhinged jerk.

100% correct. Back in the late 70s/early 80s I had an uncle, technically my grandmothers brother. He'd never married and she was widowed so they shared a house together. In retrospect, I think he was probably a closeted gay man.

Anyway, All through my young years he was a very kind and generous man. Smart too. He bought a Commodore home computer when they first came out and let me play games on it. He used it to write up a family history of everything he knew about our family's past. He also make a cookbook of all my grandmother's recipes. He printed both of those out and gave a copy to every household in the family. He had a shocking level of technological aptitude for a 60ish year old man in the early 80s.

Then one day he changed. I was young and nobody told me exactly what it was. Maybe a stroke or something. From that day on he was as mean as a snake. He'd rip into anyone over anything. Not violently, I don't think, anyway. But he'd scream and swear and slam things and be generally viscous. It was as if my uncle just died and was replaced by a scary, mean old-man who looked just like him.

While this woman may have been a bitch all her life, I've known plenty of healthy, young people who were no better than this. She might also have been emotionally disturbed and no longer the person that she was. Without more information, we'll never know.

especially a Tim Hortons sandwich. They could make the sandwich completely "right" and perfect and I'd still be upset because I decided eating something, anything, from Tims was a good idea.

What TF were they considering charging the employee with? Toxic hair?

[-] kyonshi@piefed.social 68 points 2 weeks ago

That really sounds to me like there was some underlying health issue and the customer lost absolute control of herself as she succumbed to it.

[-] ecvanalog@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago

Yep, that’s exactly the conclusion prosecutors reached if you read all the way to the bottom.

That may be the case, but there are countless videos of people committing felonies in restaurants/fast food chains because someone made a mistake on their order. There must be a lot of underlying health issues in the US 😆

[-] 7101334@lemmy.world 17 points 1 week ago

Living in the US is a health issue lol, especially mental health, especially if you have too few decimal places in your bank account.

[-] mirshafie@europe.pub 17 points 1 week ago

Didn't we literally just have a headline that 90%+ of US adults do not seek healthcare because they can't afford it?

There's something called Penrose's law: the prison population plus mental care population is a constant. So a country that doesn't take care of mental health needs to handle it as crime. Pretty simple when you think about it, but the dude had stats to back up his assertion.

Elderly woman has a total breakdown due to medical condition and somehow that's not the headline. This could be a real conversation about how elder care and how maybe it isn't a great idea to have the elderly in charge of things unless they're under constant medical supervision. Instead the top comment is "over fucking a sandwich- what a bitch!" Anita Grayson may have lived like a saint for all we know. At least, up until her body breaking down causes psychosis - which can happen to literally any one of us.

What a fucking stupid society.

[-] weew@lemmy.ca 54 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Well in this particular case, the granddaughter came out and said she was a total bitch all her life, so... maybe it wasn't psychosis in this case?

[-] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 15 points 1 week ago

Okay thats hilarious.

I hope the funeral wasn't honoring her life, but roasting the shit out of her

You're drawing your own inferences from who knows where. Cardiac psychosis can be something that could (rarely) occur in late stage CHF patients. Those folks can barely move around at that point though.

This woman did aggravate her serious medical condition, though, and I'm willing to believe she didn't have a complete understanding of it.

I say this being in full agreement we need better healthcare in the US. But I've also seen people with access to great care who just didn't give a shit about the recommendations of their doctors. People are complicated.

Yeah I'm sure it's an elder care issue and not the fact that she was a miserable asshole her entire life.

Nothing is ever anyone's fault.

Literally nothing in the article says anything about psychosis, what are you talking about?

[-] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

There is literally nothing in the article about psychosis.

You are writing prose based on nothing but your desire to muddy the water and refusal to believe someone old cant be a fucking aggressive asshole just because they are simply an asshole.

And let me tell you, Plenty of young, aggressive assholes grow into old aggressive assholes who are still convinced they can slap people around and get what they want, like they did with their children when they were 4.

“This is a heartbreaking situation for everyone involved and especially for Ms. Grayson’s family,” the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said in an update on the case Friday.

And not especially heart breaking for the employee who got their hair ripped put by a psycho and then had to watch that psycho doe and then live for months under the threat of having to go to jail for being attacked?

I'd say the cunt is fine, the family likely is relieved she's gone, I feel for the basic income employee

[-] Janx@piefed.social 51 points 1 week ago

Medical records obtained by investigators after her death showed she had recently been treated for congestive heart failure, hypertension, shortness of breath, and other complaints related to cardiovascular issues.

But not "being a cunt", so I guess that was her decision, not a medical condition.

Seriously, who curses at minimum-wage teenage workers doing their jobs and physically attacks them!? The world is a slightly better place now...

miserable people who are dying of health issues and whose daily life nothing but despair and pain.

that's who.

my dad was the same way as this lady. spend the last 5 years of his life slowly dying and taking it out on other people.

Jebus. I was gonna make some snark about boomers, but her actions do it all for me. On the upshot, she'll never treat staff like that again!

Was she always like this, and getting that pissed stressed her heart, or was she irrational from some health problem that then finished her off? I had a relative with heart problems who had a widowmaker while out in a field getting mad at a stuck tractor. He had been told "you gotta stop taking that tractor out there. it always gets stuck and then you get really mad and you're going to have a heart attack." At least it happened fast, I guess.

So, did she die like she lived (angry, violent), like he did, or is it sadder?

"The customer is always right."

As someone who once worked retail, I hate that fucking statement.

[-] wifemademesignup@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

In matters of taste.

Not in every single way... I hate how the twisting of this phrase has resulted in abuse of an entire sectors workforce.

Sorry you were one of them too :(
