Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Donald Trump on Friday downplayed the toll on American sailors enduring nearly nine months at sea on the USS Abraham Lincoln as concerns escalated about mental health and supply issues aboard the aircraft carrier supporting U.S. operations against Iran.

In a brief exchange with reporters before flying to New York for an event to highlight falling violent crime rates across the U.S., Trump refuted that family members have raised concerns about the deployment’s length and even said that the deployment — which includes a record-setting uninterrupted time at sea of more than 240 days — is “not nearly long enough.”

I say this is a former army officer. The military will vote for another Republican as long as that Republican is standing up there mouthing thank the troops bullshit. Fuck Trump fuck everybody that voted for this mother fucker.

[–] absGeekNZ 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think you spelled "child fucker" incorrectly.

Let's not make the mistake of thinking that once Trump is dead and gone our problems will be over. Trump is an incompetent fool but there are quite a few very smart people behind him now, and there will continue to be these people when he is either dead or out of office that will be doing everything in their power to sustain aspects of this administration they find useful.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

True. Very true.

But we'll never have to hear this low IQ rapist pedo's dipshit opinions ever again. And that'll be real nice. Imagine not hearing that flatulent voice anymore. Imagine not seeing his redneck name printed everywhere. Gonna be supreme.

As far as functionally, we may get lucky and see a lot of his cultists refrain from voting in the future cuz the good ol' days are gone and no one else is living up to their cult leader desires.

Our problems won't nearly be over, but a dangerous cult leader will be worm food, and that's a real good thing.

[–] TORFdot0@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If those people were capable then they’d be in power without a useful idiot like DJT. Once DJT is dead the low IQ morons that plague this country will go back to not participating in elections like they did prior to 2016.

[–] GoofSchmoofer@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

will go back to not participating in elections like they did prior to 2016.

As much as I wish this to be the case - there are too many con-men/women that have seen what trump has done and how much money he as stolen from taxpayers that there will now always be some crazy ass candidate that will try to anger up the stupids to vote for them.

[–] ironpangolin29@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 days ago

Shoot the swamp america, do yourselves a favour.

[–] btsax@reddthat.com 25 points 2 days ago (1 children)

"Well yeah this sucks but the Fox News playing 24/7 in the commissary tells me that Democrats want to turn my kids trans so I guess I still have to vote for Republicans"

-95% of the military

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago (6 children)

The military is more democratic than you think.... it leans Republican significantly, but only about 2:1.

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Some of you may die but, that's a sacrifice I am willing to make.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 6 points 2 days ago

At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if Donald Trump is a cartoon character who escaped from the silver screen...

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 116 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (18 children)

Every single one of them that voted for Trump or didn't vote, got what they deserve. They voted for the leopard eating faces, and now the leopard is on them.
The ones that voted against Trump are the only ones I can really feel sorry for.
Fuck Americans that failed to vote against Trump.

Trump is a malignant narcissist, and that was very clear before the election, it was also clear before he was elected the first time.
If you want a malignant narcissist as leader of your country, you are not right in the head.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 72 points 3 days ago (22 children)

There's no way they could have known. It's not like he had a history going back into the 70s and 60s of being a... oh, yeah. He did.

You know the joke in Back to the Future where Marty tells Doc the President is Reagan, and he says incredulously, "What? The actor?" Well, imagine going back to any point in the latter 20th century and telling someone that Trump will be President. Anyone would laugh, no matter what party affiliation. Seems we all had standards back then, even if they were still low.

The reason is simply because he's the perfect tool that the Southern Strategy dreamed of. They never had an idea it would work so well.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 31 points 3 days ago

They knew Trump was a scumbag back when they made Back to the Future 2! You think this...

...was a coincidence?!

Hell, the Simpsons made fun of the idea.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The DNC pretty much handed him 2016, and Biden handed him 2024.

The two parties are both trash, and the citizens just rolling over and taking it up the ass, doesn't help.

I really hope the current military is seeing this, as well as all those vets who have to wear grunt style tshirts everywhere they go and plaster veteran/military decals all over their cars.

he. Does. NOT. Care. About. YOU!

[–] limelight79@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That ship should have sailed when he mocked John McCain, a guy that spent 6 years in a POW camp after being shot down over Vietnam. In a sane world, he'd lose the military vote right then and there, forever.

In a sane world the vets who actually give a shit would have jumped ship when the pedo pissed all over the sanctity of Arlington, and had his people assault an Army employee, for a photo op

I really hope the current military is seeing this

There's a pretty long list of occasions where Trump has insulted the military as a whole as well as individual members of the military and it appears the average military service member either isn't aware or is neck deep in the cult so Dear Leader is always right.

You hear that, navy boys? Time for mutiny. He's not going to send you home.

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 days ago

The Roy Cohn Shuffle: never admit you're wrong, just keep doubling down.

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 64 points 3 days ago (1 children)

He's so stupid. He just walks into these PR disasters unforced because he can't come up with something better.

Just wax lyrical about the dedication of your soldiers and how thankful the USA is for them to carry out this important mission. It would be so easy.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 39 points 3 days ago (13 children)

Walking headlong into PR disasters and getting away with it is part of the flex of fascism. It’s the same for most of their hypocrisy and ‘rules for thee’ mentality.

Also, he is going senile, my grandma also got weirdly angry at everybody and everything right before she started to forget who we were, and eventually who she was.

Doesn't matter if it's made an official holiday by the government. The people of this nation (world) are gonna make it a national (international) holiday by sheer force of will.

I'll celebrate it like Christmas every year. I'll call in sick every year on the day if I have to.

[–] the_tab_key@lemmy.world 65 points 3 days ago

240+ days not nearly long enough...I wonder how many times he's played golf during that time.

[–] stumu415@lemmy.zip 29 points 3 days ago

Historically it always turns out well when you alienate the military.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 46 points 3 days ago (1 children)

How much you wanna bet the majority of personnel on that aircraft carrier would still happily vote for trump’s successor (Vance? Trump again, illegally? A festering maggotty sack of feces? Anyone with an [R] next to their name?) in 2028?

MAGA people never learn.

[–] matlag@sh.itjust.works 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

As soon as he's out, his wannabe successors will put all the things they can't defend on his mental decline. Once elected, they'll do exactly the same things.

During COVID, i did 195 days on an out of service cruise ship. The isolation was unreal.

[–] DisasterTransport@startrek.website 18 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (2 children)

It's almost impressive how emotionally volatile he is. Defensive as fuck and flailing, not even trying to tune the bullshit. Maybe he's just getting too comfortable, maybe it doesn't matter because if how cemented his power is, but can you imagine if, like, Hillary Clinton said some shit like this when she got oresson on Benghazi. Like "nobody thinks it was bad, if you ask me it's not bad enough and should get worse"

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

My theory is that no only does he have a circus entourage of clapping seals almost wherever he goes, LLMs seem like a perfect match for an egotistical idiot with dementia like Trump. It can synthesize an image or tell him a reality of whatever he desires. In some ways he's more comfortable and feels like he no longer has to answer to anyone.

One of the most basic lessons of Christianity is the need to ask for forgiveness. Trump once held up a bible for a photo op, we keep hearing rumblings of Christian Nationalism apparently from this current administration, and Trump now declares, "I'll never apologize." That's about as anti-Christian as a message can be.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago (5 children)

It is also a key feature of narcissism. Donnie not apologizing is not the least bit surprising.
