But what does it have to do with gaming?

Depressions are shit. And that her brother died even way younger does not help. How fucking shit this must be for the parents.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 19 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I've had nightmares about our kids falling down the depression spiral; I can't fault anyone for a raging case of what-the-everlasting-fuck when they look at the world and read the news, but fight. fight on. "Rage, rage against the dying of the light."

[–] antianarchist@sopuli.xyz 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Do you have any experiences/learnings you want to share?

Depression can have many causes and as a parent, I believe it is important to be available for your kids. Mentally, physically, but also emotionally. Take them the way they are and show support. Lead by example. Teach them how the world works, let them be part of your thought processes and make decisions together. But besides that, what else can I do?

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 7 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I wish I had tips and tricks. Nothing replaces being there in your kids' lives, but of course, that's not really actionable more than holistic.

I feel bad because our kids are going to inherit an exceptional shit sandwich and the only way for the species to make it is if a lot of them see past the culture wars and hate and focus on unifying against a worldwide threat as ecosystems collapse and we all choke on the effluence the vroom-vroom crowd insist we accommodate. I love giving them good news, but also want them to be aware

Jimmy Carr, whether you like him as comedian or not, is a tremendously wise person who regularly amazes me by his wisdom. This is a video where he basically addressed the current issue. And it gave me hope.

I love Carr. Hope he's right. Really really really hope.

just one example of the manifold crazy issues we have to face:

I can't even imagine losing one of my children, let alone two. Horrific tragedy.

It was four days before her birthday, too

[–] Kazumara@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 14 hours ago

Oh shit, that's sad. She died so young, and on top of that her daughter only turns 12 this year :-(

[–] JackDark@lemmy.world 14 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

For anyone else who has never heard of her:

Beginning as a child star, with a long career in both TV and film, Panettiere is remembered for her roles as Claire Bennet on the hit series "Heroes" and as Juliette Barnes on the musical drama "Nashville."

She also starred in "Remember the Titans," "Raising Helen," "Ice Princess" and "Scream 4."

Weird they don’t mention Malcom in the middle

Oh my god I completely forgot, that's probably my favorite role of hers! Fuck every rewarch is going to be sad now.

[–] JackDark@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

I only copy/pasted from the article.

[–] hydrashok@sh.itjust.works 31 points 19 hours ago

Holy shit. Way too young. That’s very sad. RIP.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 8 points 16 hours ago

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hayden_Panettiere - I didn't know her name, but instantly recognized her face as Clair from Heroes series.

[–] osanna@lemmy.vg 20 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

damn. that sucks. 36 is far far far too young.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

There is no appropriate age to die from suicide.

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 2 points 9 hours ago

Pretty sure it was an overdose. Not sure if on purpose and just because. Can't call it suicide yet.

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 11 points 19 hours ago

I guess the world is fucked... Oh wait.

36? Damn that is way too young. RIP, loved her on Heroes.
