Where does this happen so much that people are making memes about it? I don't think I've ever seen that happen before in my entire life.

[–] taiyang@lemmy.world 4 points 52 minutes ago

Los Angeles, for one. Drive home from dropping kids off at daycare, ran into this four times in a 10 minute period-- two on a major street, blocking (admittedly light) traffic.

Ubers, deliveries, Amazon vans... ugh.

[–] pedz@lemmy.ca 1 points 15 minutes ago

Montreal. A friend came to visit me one day and he's from a much smaller city. He couldn't believe his eyes when he saw a car double parked and took a picture.

[–] VieuxQueb@lemmy.ca 4 points 37 minutes ago

Anywhere there are lots of uber drivers. They will park in the middle of the street in front of my apartment building blocking the path while delivering someone's overpriced meal.

I also despise those who use hazard lights to slowly drive around with a broken vehicle. If the fucking car is dangerous to drive DON'T DRIVE IT !

Hazard lights are meant to signify a hazard like an accident or damage driveway forcing you to do a "dangerous maneuver". Not to warn others not to hit your car because you are doing something illegal.

Youre lucky.

My town - all the time. Uber eats drivers. People picking up their kids. At SUPERMARKETS and Costco.

I never seen one, in what region are ya?

[–] DaleGribble88@programming.dev 1 points 21 minutes ago

I've used it to "park" and let people out of my car, but never left the vehicle that I can recall. I also don't wait for the person I dropped off to come back. One notable exception for helping my mom get into a wheelchair at the ER, but that was more of a designated drop off zone that I probably stayed in too long than a proper "no parking" zone. Maybe 3-5 minutes instead of the anticipated seconds?

Not a day goes by where there isn't some douche with their hazards on parked in the firelane out in front of my apartment's front office.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

If people threw rocks this would be dangerous

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 2 points 38 minutes ago

Where's that meme where drivers behave if they see a pedestrian holding a brick.

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 17 points 3 hours ago

If you use this when shittily blocking any roads or pathes in Germany the fine gets higher because the lights prove that you behaved like an asshole intentionally.

[–] Bipauler@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 hours ago

The fuckers out front of the laundry mat that provides carts with wheels on them because they are simply to lazy to walk an extra 200 feet to a parking space. Entitled fucks.

[–] Darkassassin07@lemmy.ca 27 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Seriously; fuck the people that just abandon their vehicles in emergency lanes with the hazard lights on.

"I'll only be a minute" Fuck you, you'll be more than a minute, your shit is in the way, and that 'minute' could and has literally been the difference between life and death in an actual emergency.

I hope your shit gets towed and you face a huge fine. Or a fire fighter smashes it up to get to a fire hydrant.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 2 points 38 minutes ago

Also bike lanes. They should be instant towed.

[–] haerrii@feddit.org 12 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Deliberate lights. Hey y'all, look how i'm committing administative offence!

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 1 points 3 hours ago

What if I call it civil disobedience, though?

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Of course it’s an emergency, I need to park and there aren’t any parking spots!!

[–] Pechente@feddit.org 6 points 1 hour ago

Imagine walking 50m. The horror

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 15 points 5 hours ago
[–] chickenf622@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 hours ago

It's preferable to the people who just stop and don't turn on their hazards so I have no idea what they're doing. Still shit behavior, but at least shit behavior and can navigate around better.

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works -4 points 4 hours ago (4 children)

It kinda is though. If I have a delivery to make, i'm not ginna soend 10 minutes for every delivery to find a good parking space that fits my truck or van. I park my truck/van in the street and turn on the emrgency lights to signal to other road users that I am a standing there and they need to pay attention.

[–] VieuxQueb@lemmy.ca 3 points 34 minutes ago (1 children)

Fuck OFF on behalf of most normal people!

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 0 points 23 minutes ago

You can't speak "on behalf of" some group that you haven't the faintest connection with.. Normal people don't get their panties in twist when someone shares a different point of view in an open discussion on the internet.

[–] november@piefed.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 minutes ago

I get it, I used to be a rideshare driver in Chicago and people would pick the STUPIDEST places to wait for me, but that doesn't actually make it okay.

[–] T0RB1T@piefed.ca 9 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Just because your employer doesn't give you enough time to properly and safely complete your job (while still following traffic laws) doesn't make traffic laws stop being law.

It's not a park anywhere button. It just means you're willing to break the rules, and be a jerk on behalf of your ultra-jerk boss.

Yes, blocking the street "but only for a minute" makes you a jerk, even if you're just trying to do your job.

It's the Trickle Down Jerk Economy I guess...

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works -1 points 32 minutes ago (1 children)

Parking on tge side of the road doesn't break any rules. It is only a little inconvenient for you, because you have to swerve around and maybe even wait for traffic. You don't get to call me a jerk because your autistuc ass can't handle the dynamic circumstances of the road.

I'm sure you never cut corners to make your job easier and quicker? If I can choose to walk 100 meters with a 20kg pckage or walk 10 meters with a 20 kg package. I choose the short trip. Sure I can use equipment to help me lift heavy loads, but it takes time to get that equipment set up. Mulitply that times 50 or so and every day come home when the kids are already in bed and you only really get to see them in the weekends.

You don’t get to call me a jerk because your autistuc ass can’t handle the dynamic circumstances of the road.

What the fuck is wrong with you?

(Edit) Also, how are you gonna say that to someone who shares a different point of view in an open discussion on the internet, and then go on to say "Normal people don’t get their panties in twist when someone shares a different point of view in an open discussion on the internet."?

[–] SatansDaughter@quokk.au 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Are there not parking spots specifically for deliveries where you live?

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 0 points 28 minutes ago

If there are, I'll use them of course. Even if there's any sort of normal parking spot or even a driveway,I'lluse that. Sometimes there isn't though, so I have to park on the side of the road.
