when I type in yt-dlp -x --audio-format mp3 -f bestaudio -o "%(playlist)s/%(playlist_index)s - %(title)s.%(ext)s" "YOUR_PLAYLIST_URL" I get an error message saying youtube music not supported and then it switches over to Youtube to get the playlist I give access to my cookies so it can download e playlist but then I get error messages while it tries to download the playlist and nothing gets downloaded.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: it's youtube music that's the problem. I can download from youtube proper, but the problem is that songs that have a music video are substituted instead of the song file itself.

EDIT: I think I will just transfer my liked playlist to another playlist and download that.

When accessing yt make sure you always update to nightly, stable take too long to get the updates.

--update-to nightly

Sorry if this is a bit of a tangent, but it's a shame torrenting music aren't as big a thing as they used to be.

It was nice being able to download high quality album rips pretty quickly after release.

I dunno, maybe my tastes have become too niche or I'm looking in all the wrong places.

i heard you should never look on rutracker dot org for music

rutracker dot org

So you're saying I should steal content by downloading it illegally from rutracker.org?Thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to download loads of content illegally, then seed it in perpetuity, so that others can also steal it and infringe copyright on a mass scale.

Just kidding, I will be sure to only download public domain content and open source software.

In all seriousness, is rutracker something I should visit with my browser in a sandbox, or is ublock and privacy badger enough?

depends on how paranoid you are ig

I cannot download anything via yt-dlp for a couple days too. Probably Google's shenanigans. yt-dlp got an update regarding this and it might not have hit your distro's repo yet. Shouldn't take long.

This is why you shouldn't use the distro package version. Use pip.

I've used both and still nothing

Ya I've seen a suspicious lapse in archivals on my system, figured something was up but usually only need to wait a week or two

You didn't give us much information to go on, but you should probably start by getting the most up to date version of yt-dlp. Also, I believe some time ago that it became a requirement to run another service in other to get youtube content.. EJS it's called.

Make sure it is updated to latest nightly (they constantly play whackamole with YouTube's changes breaking downloader and monthly stable basically never works)

If you're using your distros install, uninstall it, create a Python venv, and install yt-dlp using pip. Distro packages do not update frequently enough to keep yt-dlp usable, the pip version is latest nightly build by default.

Make sure you have a JavaScript anti-bot challenge solver installed, which is the yt-dlp-ejs package, and a JS runtime like deno else YouTube will always fall over

Maybe someone here can help if you provide the error message

Does it gets stucked at downloading webpage

[–] Just_Bob@fedinsfw.app 1 points 1 day ago

No. It just tries to download the next song and repeats the error.

working for me with updated binaries (currently on windows), including deno.

using just the cli instead of ytinterface. fed it a random playlist i found and used your exact command line. it also stated music wasn't supported but redirected seamlessly to yt itself.

it's now 40-some tracks in and still going.

I can download OTHER playlists. I just cannot download my liked music playlist.

add your likes to a play queue, then use that queue as your playlist for dlp.
