Interestingly, turtle ants aren’t in door-mode at all times. You can see the entrance to their nests open, but as soon as they sense danger, be it a top on the wooden wall of their tunnel, or pheromones of an enemy, the door is immediately plugged shut.

We don't know for sure that they appreciate his contribution. Probably there are Karen ants complaining that it's still a little drafty.
That's not bad as long everyone gets the same share. If you are just the door and get less than it gets to be a problem.
