This is ultimately incorrect. Using Linux just means i'm willing to risk breaking my bootloader. Linux doesn't stop me from running wine to perpetuate my dependence on closed source software. It doesn't even prevent forgetting aliases that aren't immediately broken and wondering why none of my services work anymore. I'm better than those people because my time isn't a commodity.

Actually it's that alternations to the source code must be shared under the same license.

I hate being the smartest person in the room. I think it says a lot and nothing good about me that I find myself in the situation often.

So if I have an inferiority complex, I’d be using Linux illegally?

[-] sznowicki@lemmy.world 12 points 7 hours ago

Start using it and wait a bit. It takes some time but superiority vibe is inevitable.

Even Hannah Montana Linux is superior to Windows, though.

Yes, but you're not obligated to tell people that's what you're using

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 6 points 10 hours ago

No, the Linux part is mandatory even if you don't tell them your distro. SMH, it's right there in the fine print.

This would actually not meet the criteria of free and open source software if it were real.

[-] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 3 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

TBF the Linux kernel already doesn't meet the criteria because of all the blobs (depending on who you ask, anyway). But yeah, shenanigans like this is why e.g. the Ubuntu font family is considered unfree despite its stated intention of being free.

You forgot to highlight the part of the Apple TOS about not using Apple Software on machines controlling nuclear devices.
