They have joined what future archeologists will refer to as the sedimentary tank layer
In the age of drones, tanks are obsolete
Historically, a counter is developed every new weapon. Looks like that's already happening. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidhambling/2026/08/10/russias-fpv-stopping-arena-system-for-tanks-gets-combat-debut/
It just makes killing one take more drones. No where near the cost of a tank though. It's going to have to get a lot better before that trade isn't good for the drone user.
Sometimes big heavy targets with big guns just stop being used because they're no longer efficient or effective (like battleships).
That's also possible, it's too early to tell at this point. If tanks can carry a lot of anti drone munitions, and the AI systems can target drones reliably then a few tanks together might be able to fend off a lot of drones. There's also stuff like EV warfare and counterdrones as well. All this stuff is evolving rapidly.

Tanks in Ukraine are just as useless as tanks everywhere else, it's not like the donor nations have lost something.
lol what a braindead take. akhtually, the west isn't losing, tanks are useles!!!!1 no, tanks are not useles, tanks are one part of a strategy, of course they will not win a war. and more precisely, they are useless for ukraine because russia has massive air superiority. what's actually obsolete is the west military doctrine.
It's not air superiority, it's drones. Russia also isn't really able to protect its tanks. They're an obsolete technology, at least until some more effective anti-drone defenses are developed. They already weren't that great due to the air power requirement, but with drones they're just a waste of money and lives.
