Nothing in the world seems to help. I spent forever trying to find something to watch, but literally nothing felt good. Even when I eventually put something on it felt empty and I just ended up staring at the wall. I tried playing videos games, some of which I really love, and I turned them all off after a few minutes. I've tried other things too. Half the time I don't even eat. Time passes in slow motion, like some kind of purgatory. The worst is I can't even sleep. I have the next few days off and they're going to feel like an eternity. It actually scares me. How do you get through this? I'm desperate.

For what it's worth, I see a therapist weekly and I'm on a few different medications. This particular bout of sadness is caused by an especially painful rejection.

When I get into these states, I tend to start by drinking water with a good amount of electrolytes. There’s a lot of times where I just don’t do anything and I don’t wanna leave the house but anytime I drink water and I take a walk consistently. It helps a lot.

Being indoors and constantly on a computer is not good however, much you do like computers or video games.

And I do it consistently.

One of the main things that I had when I was very depressed was the fact that I would get dehydrated and I didn’t realize it and it would make me very sad which stopped me from drinking water or doing other stuff.

No, I’m not going to pretend that water is the only thing but it’s a start.

I could always stand to drink more water

According to the dual process model of grief, healthy grieving involves a good flow between loss oriented grieving and restoration oriented grieving. A rejection follows the same principle.

You need to make time to cry and feel sad and think about the rejection. And you need to make time to play and be happy and put it out of mind. Healthy grieving involves both.

Have you tried to regularly exercise and walk through a natural trail of some sort near where you live?

[-] CallMeButtLove@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I really struggle to maintain a routine, and it takes a lot of willpower for me to exercise. I'd be more likely to start that when I'm in a good place, but keeping up with it would be hard.

There lies the solution to your dilemma. Also likely you have poor sleep hygiene.

Have you tried simply just not giving a fuck? Maybe that works? Seems to for wealthy people just fine.

[-] CallMeButtLove@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I haven't tried that per se, but I'm not sure I know how to achieve not giving a fuck.

I mean your talking to a professional. It was thinks like this that got me to seek help although I think im going to put it on hiatus as Im unwilling to take the medication and there are to many things I have to fight to try and get done.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through a rough time, I wish I had a good answer for you, but sadness, like any emotion, is just something we occasionally have to work through.

Part of coping with sadness is accepting that being sad is not a flaw, it's a natural human emotion that we all share, and it's a reasonable response to a negative and upsetting experience.

The most important thing to know is that it will get better. The awful way you feel right now is not the way you will always feel. You will get through it.

As for managing sadness, I think the best options are therapy, (safe) drugs, distractions, escapism, nature, and immersing yourself in other positive relationships with family and friends. You need to lean on the people and things that bring joy into your life.

As for rejection, it's hard... But you honestly deserve a ton of credit for putting yourself out there and trying something, even if it didn't pan out for you. What's worse than being rejected is never trying or taking a big chance. So kudos. This will make you a better and stronger person in time.
