Should we put our dicks in the mouths of every AI CEO so we can't hear their stupid opinions anymore?

[-] Widdershins@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

I doubt those fucks have the manners to not talk when their mouths are full.

Great way for Amazon to get rid of old inventory..

[-] keyhoh@piefed.social 3 points 11 hours ago

I think it would be easier to just destroy the boards of directors of companies that suggest this. No really.

Are we returning to being nomadic hunter gatherers at the same time?

If the book has no historic value and the digitized copy is complete and freely available, I don't see a problem

[-] atomo@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago

Not how it works here, I'm afraid. The book contents will train AI and then is destroyed. Not digital copy is saved. Since these are rare books, all that remains of them is the gibberish AI will vomit when users make questions about the topic once covered by the book.

I actually think they are saving a copy. They need to be able to redo the training if they come up with a better architecture.

I know... The "format conversion" is not too big of a concern for me (except for rare books), digital copies can be more accessible... but they only extract raw text so not the full book experience, then never release it.

[-] chaogomu@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Well, two problems then.

As an author, I'm on the fence about this one.

Imagine how my next book sales would go after the suddenly increased demand due to all the other books being gone...

[-] ICastFist@programming.dev 2 points 11 hours ago

Sales would be up by one unit

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
