They voted to bring,

Suffering to the whole world,

Trillions spent to hurt

[-] Stolas@lemmy.ca 9 points 12 hours ago

Doesn't matter what anyone says at this point. A lot of the damage is done.

Anyone regardless of generation who voted for him might be sorrowful now but they haven't changed. They'd absolutely vote for Trump again.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 10 points 13 hours ago

Gen Z (and everyone else) needs to learn that they are stronger as Unaffiliated Independents. No candidate wins based on their party base. The winner is ALWAYS the candidate who won the independent vote.

Stay independent, and make them earn your vote every time.

[-] chewypoops@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Just because morons who flip-flop back and forth between neoliberalism and fascism tend to swing elections doesn't mean you'll be stronger if you join them. If you regret your Trump vote, cool, but I also see what you voted for, so you're not my ally.

If I am going to put my support between of of America's two parties, there's a right and a wrong answer. Trump voters objectively chose wrong.

Ideally you would actually vote for an independent third party, but we see how the Green Party works in America, so it still just ends up being half a vote for fascism...

Your Democrats aren't perfect either. They don't undo what the right does just keeps it the same. Blind loyalty is stupid and you guys need other choices. Since your left part seems to be going along pretty nicely with what the bright is doing.

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 1 points 8 hours ago

Then they should join the DSA or some adjacent worker party. Telling the dems you won't vote for them because of X will get the response of "the GOP will punish you for not voting for us"

[-] lemmelemmy@feddit.org 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

Unaffiliated should be mandatory. If else, cunts like musk and thiel are going to get into the game directly. Or their puppets.

[-] tired_n_bored@lemmy.world 10 points 15 hours ago

Fuck Gen Z people who voted for him!! Brainrotten TikTokers

[-] blastosist@lemmy.zip 15 points 17 hours ago

Despite what Rogan told you , Trump was never the answer.

[-] aSaabD00d@lemmy.today 6 points 16 hours ago

Its funny that you say that. I was restocking on creatine at the grocery store at the beginning of the week and a gen z kid started up a conversation with me and we got on the topic of AG1 being a scam and he mentioned that Joe Rogan is an idiot bc he pushes that neuro gum crap but can't remember simple things all the time.

[-] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 35 points 1 day ago

Gen Z this, boomers that.

Fuck that noise. Any article that mentions a generation is just irrelevant, click-bait garbage.

[-] Smoogs@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

well said.

every group had someone's toe in this mess. pointless to point fingers now.

[-] cosmos8188@leminal.space 1 points 16 hours ago

Exactly, its unnecessary and follows through on the inherent ageism. But it is to show that 31% young people (above voting age) regret their choices over choosing Trump - this is the most influential minority in this case, unlike commonly believed.

Gen alpha is quite possibly also anti-trump, so when they become of voting age they'll have a much greater disapproval rating.

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 13 hours ago

Trump will be dead by then (Yay!)

[-] rslogix89@lemmy.world 118 points 1 day ago

I’m cynical so I’ll believe this once the results of the midterms are announced.

[-] Almacca@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago

I'm also cynical, and have no faith that there won't be any tampering with the election results.

[-] DokPsy@lemmy.world 44 points 1 day ago

I've been burned by headlines before. Hard agree. I'll believe it when the results are in

[-] TWeaK@lemmy.today 32 points 1 day ago

The article itself contradicts its headline. It says 31% of Gen Z regret voting for Trump, but that means 69% don't regret it - and it gets worse for the other generations.

[-] wuffah@lemmy.world 28 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Thirty-one percent of Generation Zers who voted for President Trump say they regret it, a recent Navigator poll reports.

That would mean 69% of Gen Z who voted for Trump did not regret it. Not 69% of all Gen Z.

What I've learned in my 35 years of life is that you can't stop stupid people, stupid people will never change, and stupid people will always win by sheer numbers

[-] zurchpet@lemmy.ml 3 points 13 hours ago

Education. What is missing is honest, good education.

[-] TheReanuKeeves@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

Yes but we live in a world where more people will side with an angry asshole than a calm intellectual. The problem is systemic. Our society rewards greed, sociopathy, aggression, and punishes intelligence, progression, equality.

[-] TommySoda@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago

You can't stop stupid people but you can get them on your side with enough convincing and promises. Which is exactly what MAGA did. Stupid doesn't equal evil. It's the evil people convincing the stupid to do their bidding by making them feel better about themselves, promising the world, and convincing them that the evil they are doing is a good thing. And there's a difference between stupidity and ignorance. You can't teach stupid, but you can teach the ignorant. That doesn't sound like a big distinction but it is. Imagine how many of these people could have been the most highly educated people in the country but ended up stuck in rural Iowa working the family farm.

Reminder that millennials voted more strongly for Trump than Gen Z.

[-] ltxrtquq@lemmy.ml 19 points 1 day ago

Honestly, I think it was mostly just a matter of how bad Harris was as a candidate

[-] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This is why I blame the DNC equally for where we’re at now. Biden should’ve bowed out after two years, we should’ve gotten a primary for 2024. They completely screwed over the younger base, who were still pissed about what they did to Bernie in 2016. Biden won by narrow margin in 2020.

[-] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

And let's be real, Biden didn't win as much as Trump lost. Trump fucking up covid is why Biden got elected.

[-] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 1 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

This… even my own dad who voted for Trump refused to vote for him in 2020…. I think he sat out or voted third-party.

Unfortunately, he voted for Trump again in 2024. He’s a reasonable guy with a lot of things related to politics, yet still blames Obama for health care costs. We agree on things like how Newsom is an incompetent governor and is too spineless to call out Israel, and he’s all show. We’re both anti-government unions ( I argue it creates a privileged bureaucratic class that abuses public funds for pensions, and puts a tremendous burden on the state budget), but pro-private unions (ones that aren’t bought off by the establishment). I don’t get it all, it’s frustrating AF.

[-] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

trump appeals to one thing. Every speech he gives, every facial expression he makes, every raise or drop in tone, conveys to people "I will hurt others. I will bring them pain and suffering." And then, he couples that with "but not you, my friend".

The only people who can "fall for trump", are those who deeply want to hurt others. Deeply like, it is a main pillar of their being, even if it doesn't show most of the time. "Others", as in faceless groups, not specific people. My guess is that your dad previously always pointed that at "the right people" from your viewpoint.

Or, you don't realize how much of that urge he has pointed at the people trump purports to want to destroy, POC, queer folks, women, bureaucracy. Regardless of which one of those roped him in, he doesn't care enough about the others if he ignored that they were going to be destroyed too.

Festering, loved, tended hate kept deep inside a person, is what trump uses to get his votes.

[-] hoppeduponcoffee@lemmy.zip 1 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

The bizarre part is my dad doesn’t hate any particular group. Being a boomer, I wouldn’t say he’s openly accepting of lgbtq+, but he wouldn’t disown me or my kids if they came out. He’s Puerto Rican and they are often very economically conservative and pro-capitalism. He’s identifies politically as an independent and if a leftist has a good idea to his judgement, he’s for it.

He actually cringes and shakes his head at some of the stuff Trump is doing. But conservatives feel some compelling need to vote red no matter what.

He’s one of those people that say, “I had to bust my ass to support my family, I was miserable working 14 hours a day sometimes, so that’s what it takes to be successful and everyone else should have to do that too.”

[-] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

As a queer person from a very red place, I can tell you that this is the most common. Very few people are open about the harm they want to inflict on the "other". Most will "except" the queer or black skinned neighbor or cousin, but still promote their destruction through the people and policies they support. Then, when the gestapo come, they will turn and look away.

They are ashamed of the filth they culture in their bellies, and have not the spine to look at it. I prefer an open nazi to a neighbor who will turn away when they come for me.

You see it yourself. You just brought it up. Your father was abused by the system, and now he needs to see that abuse put onto others. He saw trump saying "I will hurt people" and he made every excuse to vote for it.

[-] LePoisson@lemmy.world 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm still mad the DNC didn't hold a primary election when they all got together in Chicago (I think that's where they were I could be wrong) after Biden dropped out. Would have been way better optics.

Also still think Biden could have just stayed in and won because sexism and propaganda was way more effective against Harris than another old white guy. Harris not that inspiring for voter turn out either in my opinion.

[-] Sackett@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

He should never have ran for a second term. The moment he did, he never should have backed out. Terrible strategy all around.

Thirty-one percent of Generation Zers who voted for President Trump say they regret it

So 69% of Gen Z that voted for Trump don't regret it.

And that's the biggest demographic that regretted it. The demographic with the smallest proportion that don't regret voting for Trump.

  • 69% Gen Z
  • 72% Millennials
  • 80% Gen X
  • 90% Baby Boomers

So the vast majority of Trump voters don't regret it, according to this poll.

Hopefully the neo-Hitler Youth, aka Gen Z Republicans, won't suddenly come down with a bad case of "Economic Anxiety"™ just before election day.

Even though many of them were likely affected by Trump's first term, they couldn't be trusted to make a good decision during the last election. They happily ate up the "Kamala will be worse" propaganda and learned nothing from it. There's no telling what kind of thought-terminating cliche they might get trapped in just before the polls open.
