Dear OP,
You've posted an image instead of linking to the article. I don't understand why everyone on Lemmy doesn't understand this is completely worthless.

Yes, but you can still email the health columnist author and tell her she sucks shit at health columnizing.

Do not, my friends, become addicted to water. It will take hold of you and you will resent its absence!

[-] exasperation@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 7 hours ago

Water has the harshest withdrawal symptoms known to medical science.

[-] glitch1985@lemmy.world 2 points 7 hours ago

I've heard everybody who drinks water dies. That's not a risk I'm willing to take personally.

[-] dan69@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

Start doubling your intake now!!

[-] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 13 hours ago

40 ounces is like 1 litre, that's not a huge water bottle, it's a water bottle you clamshell.

[-] fodor@lemmy.zip 15 points 20 hours ago

I could say the same to the data centers. They got to lay off the water bro.

[-] Bluewing@lemmy.world 5 points 16 hours ago
[-] ludo@feddit.nu 1 points 15 hours ago

No no, the establishment is obviously going after a community who are a fan of drinking water. How dare you involve science! /s

Dehydration has severe effects on your mental and physical health

[-] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 1 points 12 hours ago

You should be drinking 3 liters per day. 40oz is about 1. You should carry those bottles with you all day, and fill it 3 times.

[-] rumba@lemmy.zip 16 points 1 day ago

Over-hydrating doesn't help, but under-hydrating sure does.

If you're pee is light yellow ya doin' fine.

[-] Eheran@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

If you're pee... you are not doing fine.

Measuring liquid with mass units? Toddlerific

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 7 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

It seems to be an American thing. When I was in the US I was confused by all that drink cans are labeled in weight measurements rather than in liquid measurements. Although I guess it's the US so I should just be grateful that it wasn't been measured in fractions of a corgi or something.

[-] derfunkatron@lemmy.world 7 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

8 fluid ounces is a cup, 4 cups is a quart, 4 quarts is a gallon. Most canned drinks are 12 fl. oz, or 3/4 of a pint.

8 ounces is half a pound.

It makes perfect sense!

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

A pint's a pound, not quite the world around, mostly just in the US, Liberia, and Myanmar, but also in several commonwealth countries and not to a precision level where local gravity applies

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Does that not mean that you get different amounts of liquid for the same 12 fluid ounces, because a pint of water does not weigh the same as a pint of beer, which in turn does not weigh the same as a paint of Coke.

[-] Bakkoda@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

No. Fluid ounce is the volume. Most filling processes utilize the specific gravity of the solution and then fill by weight.

1 L of water is 1kg. Let's say you add 500 grams of sugar. Now the solution has a specific gravity of 1.5mg per ml. So a 500 mL fill (16.9 oz) is 750mg. This is really rudimentary but I hope it kind of explains how the process should go.

[-] notSys@lemmy.cafe 3 points 16 hours ago

Why tho? 1kg=1l, 1g=1ml anyway, and I like to know how much something will weight in my backpack

[-] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 15 hours ago

That's only for pure H20 (distilled water). Most drinking water has low amounts of mineral salts and other stuff.

[-] notSys@lemmy.cafe 4 points 14 hours ago

The difference is negligible for most drinks.

[-] Eheran@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

So? What is the density of drinking water then, that you specifically mention this when someone says water is ~1?

[-] Goodlucksil@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 14 hours ago

I can't find it.

[-] psilotop@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

A fluid ounce is a unit of volume.

[-] nednobbins@lemmy.zip 23 points 1 day ago

It has some grains of truth but it's mingled with too much personal opinion.

There are studies on how much water humans really need. If you want to calculate it the scientific way, you need to factor in at least lean muscle mass, total mass, surface area, ambient temperature and humidity, activity levels, and diet. There's no magic number of ounces that's correct for everyone.

Fortunately we've evolved a really awesome mechanism. When your body needs more water, you get thirsty.

So if you want to stay properly hydrated, drink whenever you feel even a little thirsty.

Yeaaahhh....About that...

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

ADHD can make you completely ignore that signal for way, way too long.

My body also misinterprets that signal as "hunger", and a craving for some wet food. Maybe like yogurt or a cup of pudding. You know something that just slides down easy. Yeah #thisiswhyimfat.

[-] Appoxo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 22 hours ago

Yep...
Take my meds and of to the race on one cup of tea at the morning.
Sometimes I will remember the bottle of water on my table in front of my monitors at work. Sometimes.

Three article boils down to the author being a whiny WSJ entitled asshole, which is what I expect from the WSJ.

Author, you don't need the 40 oz cup.

Quoted Expert, you need around 125 oz a day.

Author, but water is so boring and tasteless, I want sugar and you get a fraction of water from food right? I don't wanna drink water. Written Toddler Tantrum ensues

Author, so in conclusion you don't need that 40 oz water cup.

The rest of us, STFU you entitled twat.

Right wing newspapers love to do this shit where I live. We get into a crisis, people start skipping meals because they don't have money, and they will talk about the health benefits of dieting and fasting 🙄
