There are dozens of upvotes. DOZENS!

[-] OpenStars@discuss.online 16 points 1 month ago

Well, a bit fewer from PieFed lately 🤪

[-] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 19 points 1 month ago

Side note, I honestly love that people don’t automatically downvote comments with an emoji here though.

[-] FundMECFS@piefed.zip 15 points 1 month ago

Same 🥺❤️❤️UwU❤️❤️✨💖

(taking the piss, I do genuinely enjoy that an emoji won’t get you crucified here)

[-] Axolotl_cpp@feddit.it 4 points 1 month ago

I also love that emoticons and kaomoji won't get you crucified either :3

Having recently released a free Android/iOS game I can tell you: 25k views on Reddit, 80 visits to my store page. 100 upvotes on Lemmy 600 views on the store.

Reddit is simply full with bots, upvotes mean nothing.

[-] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 24 points 1 month ago

i knew it was bad, but had no clue it was that bad

[-] Vlyn@lemmy.zip 47 points 1 month ago

It's even worse: Popular subreddits like /r/games have a "at most 10% self promotion" rule, so 10% of your posts can be self-promotion. So I thought: Hey, my account is 14 years old or so, over 100k karma, I'll make a post about my game.

Got instantly taken down, they counted every single patch note post in my own subreddit to the rule. And then I noticed whenever I posted the direct iOS App Store link my post instantly got filtered, even in my own subreddit! The mods heavily pushed me towards buying Reddit ads.

[-] Jg1@lemmy.zip 9 points 1 month ago

Those are insane ratios, I would never had guessed there would be that much of a difference!

[-] PastaGod@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Well you’ve got some upvotes here so what’s the game?

This used to be true; now I sort by New - 6 Hours and I get posts like this with 400 upvotes

The fediverse grows

[-] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

My crippling scrolling addiction and my crippling corporation hate have conspired to make me sort by top of the last 6 hours. I regularly still see posts with 20 upvotes

[-] katiecakes@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago

I'm here just this week, totally new to the fediverse after they killed old reddit. I like it a lot, feels like the old days.

Dig -> Reddit -> Lemmy

[-] shittydwarf@piefed.ca 57 points 1 month ago
[-] RustyShackleford@piefed.social 43 points 1 month ago

There’s always upvotes in the Banana Stand, Michael.

[-] mirshafie@europe.pub 30 points 1 month ago

I remember when the most upvoted Reddit posts had about 1k upvotes, and it was the golden age of reddit.

[-] mobyduck648@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

In 10 years time there is a chance people will mythologise this as the good old days of Lemmy!

Quick only tell like 400,000 more people about the Fediverse and then shut the fuck up

[-] mirshafie@europe.pub 7 points 1 month ago

Unironically, I often think about how maybe we should invite r/Europe to europe.pub, and then I'm like "nah fuck those guys"

[-] jaygray91@piefed.zip 4 points 1 month ago

This made me look at my account's top posts. Highest I ever gotten was 400 upvotes for a post on Android about Pocket now saying malware on android is not a thing 11 years ago.

Then around too 20-ish of posts on small niche subs and meme subs generally around 5 - 8 years ago.

I miss those times.

I should help here but alas I am not my past self. It took me a long tine lurking back then to start posting, and it will take me a long tine to start posting here as well.

did my part...i UP VOTED 🙏

[-] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 24 points 1 month ago

I like to comment but am indifferent to upvoting. Sorry.

[-] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 21 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Oh now you're in for it. *Get ready for heckin' updoot, bucko

⬆️ blam!

[-] CombatWombat@feddit.online 19 points 1 month ago

I prefer comments too — It’s social media, not electoral media

[-] thethrilloftime69@feddit.online 9 points 1 month ago

Yeah I find it tedious. An upvote barely expresses anything but the entire Internet is built around chasing this barely anything interaction.

[-] Klanky@sopuli.xyz 20 points 1 month ago

Sometimes I have nothing worth saying or to add but I still want to express appreciation and approval of something.

[-] rimu@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Yes, approval is often only expressed as an upvote (which has very little emotional impact) but disagreement comes in the form of a comment, which hits harder.

So often a post will get hundreds of upvotes but the 20 negative comments on it make it seem like everyone hates it. There are many many ways to disagree so people will always find a new issue to bring up.

We have a structural problem, baked into the way the threadiverse works, that makes communities feel more negative and hostile than they are. I'm not sure what to do about that.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 month ago

Taking away (or limiting) people's ability to vote doesn't mean they'll leave more comments. It just makes the sorting less effective at moving the comments that the most people like to the top of the thread.

We have a structural problem, baked into the way the threadiverse works, that makes communities feel more negative and hostile than they are.

That's just what happens when you federate with tankies. I'm sure the instances that block hexbear, lemmygrad, and .ml are the most peaceful. Not that they'll be totally free from trolls, but it's about numbers.

I don't know what the fediverse is and at this point too afraid to ask

[-] PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 month ago

Yer right in the middle of it bud

[-] CombatWombat@feddit.online 10 points 1 month ago

Assuming you’re not just memeing, fedi.tips has a pretty good explainer, although it’s more mastodon focused than lemmy focused.

[-] bstix@feddit.dk 7 points 1 month ago

Happy cake day. At least one year in and you still don't know?

[-] k0e3@lemmy.ca 19 points 1 month ago

This might be the most upvoted post I've ever seen on Lemmy so far.

[-] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago

Upvotes here are more rare and therefore more valuable

[-] bstix@feddit.dk 14 points 1 month ago

I don't know about posts, but for comments I used to hold the most upvoted comment of the accumulated vores on the fediverse, and probably also the most replies. All by accident of course, and yet nevertheless, I can tell you that there are not just dozens, but thousands of people viewing this shit. Posts must be worse.

It happens and decays quite fast, so your inbox will be red for a couple of days at most. Reddit was the same but for other reasons. People actually read this in comparison, whereas on Reddit the interest would die within hours, unless someone accidentally found your post three years later through googling.

[-] jdr@lemmy.ml 13 points 1 month ago
[-] bstix@feddit.dk 8 points 1 month ago

Tastes soo good. Don't stop me. I already have 5 upvores on this.

[-] Redvenom@retrolemmy.com 11 points 1 month ago

hahahah you bastard, there are literally dozens of us!

[-] Valmond@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 month ago

The magic number is 1k.

Remember when the most upvoted post on reddit had 10k upvoted and it was about scooby doo?

I've made a huge upvote...
