Open street map shows it properly, and its a non-profit, open source project.

There are several navigation apps that use OSM data.

I Adblock YouTube and have been Google free for years, mostly.

Just checked Apple Maps and it’s Lake Ontario still.

Fuck Google. Fuck all the oligarchs. And fuck the Greedy. Old. Pedophiles.

Reality is increasingly being warped in US. For the rest of the world it's still Lake Ontario.

It's deeply concerning and tends to be a bad omen of atrocities to come.

americans would be more moved if you told them it meant more homework for them.

[-] Zorque@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago

Considering the "Gulf of America" bullshit, this being the straw would be wild.

Just tried out Here We Go and it's looking really nice. Try it out! Not available for Android in the car, though, which is a bummer.

[-] one_old_coder@piefed.social 1 points 3 hours ago

I haven't tried it yet in the car but they do have an Android Auto setting. No possibility to put it in the Auto launcher though, weird.

BUT, Wikipedia says you should use the beta version: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here_WeGo#CarPlay_and_Android_Auto

Tried it yesterday and noticed a couple of issues.

  1. The console and dash display got locked to 100% brightness until it went into dark mode (tunnel/evening light).
  2. The map didn't get displayed on the car's second display on the driver's hud/dash; only the directions showed there.

The map was also more sparse compared to Google's. For example, it didn't show the lanes for highway turn-offs and a few other things like voice guidance (which I don't use anyway), but that was the only one that I genuinely missed.

Still, it was very usable and I liked it overall.

Thanks for the review. With Here Wego and MapQuest, I'm ready to uninstall Google Maps which was the last Google application on my phone.

Google used to not be evil. Then they became evil. Now they are just a little bitch with Trump's dick in their mouth.

I need to resupply my printer, but then I’m all set.

Long ago, in a galaxy of 2002....

I mean I'm with you, this is just so stupid.

[-] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 8 points 21 hours ago

On my maps I renamed Washington D.C. to The Gulf of Stupidity.

It make me laugh and Trump can't do anything about it

[-] generator@lemmy.zip 8 points 21 hours ago

Only shows "Lake America" if you're on USA

[-] Siegfried@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

Bad faith from google.

Argebtina and chile share a few lakes on the border. On their side they have a name, on our side it has another. Everybody is happy

[-] Zamboni_Driver@lemmy.ca 3 points 17 hours ago

I don't really see how it's bad faith. It's treated like a difference of language. Google is treating Americans as if they speak a different language than everyone else in the world showing them the name of the place in their language.

They are correctly showing the name lake Ontario to almost everyone else in the world, so I would say that they are doing the right thing.

[-] BCsven@lemmy.ca 4 points 17 hours ago

Nope. Shows me Lake America and I'm in Canada.

[-] sudoMakeUser@sh.itjust.works 1 points 21 minutes ago

I still see Lake Ontario in Canada, both while logged in and in private tab.

[-] BCsven@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 minutes ago

Cached Map? Offline Download?

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 1 points 12 hours ago

Report the bug.

Daily.

[-] Stupidmanager@lemmy.world 5 points 21 hours ago

Well good, about time they put warnings on maps. Above is the lake, below is america. You have been warned.
