Steam Frame isn’t here yet, and we’re no closer to knowing the price or release date, although the component supplier behind the headset’s built-in camera tracking system is officially producing a color passthrough module for Frame.

Steam Frame only includes monochrome passthrough, which the headset primarily uses for computer vision tracking in addition to letting the user to check their surroundings, albeit in a less immersive way than with a full color sensor.

Komodo Station, Valve’s hardware vendor in Asia, appears to have published a product page a little too early showing off an official color passthrough module for Frame, which is built by Arcturus Industries, the third-party computer vision specialists behind Steam Frame’s camera tracking system.

According to the leaked page captured by Reddit user ‘gogodboss’ (seen below), the official Arcturus Vision Camera for Steam Frame will include dual 32 megapixel sensors, 10 bit HDR capture, and a 64mm interpupillary distance (IPD).

Ahh, the Steam Frame, the HL3 of hardware.

HDR capture? I don't think anything has suggested the frame would have HDR displays

Greater dynamic range for the sensors could still be beneficial in high contrast scenes. A window with sunlight outside maybe can still show some overbrightend details and not just completly overblown white.

That makes sense, but I'll keep pretending it means an OLED frame is still in the cards

Likely just for future headsets that do support it, that way all your old captures are high quality.

Komodo station is such a fucking joke of a company. No idea why we're stuck dealing with them in Asia.

Asian logistics have been made so easy in the last 10 years, Valve could do it themselves and not lose a cut. They don't even offer post sales support for the products in local languages so I really have no idea what valve is getting out of the middleman.

I want to be exciting for this, but after playing through HL:A and the other good. r games on Steam, Moss etc., and playing a bunch of Elite: Dangerous during Covid, I can’t find a use for my Index. I have the base stations mounted, but I just never really break out the headset for anything.

I’m moving soon and will have a larger space for room scale, maybe that will get me using it more? Idk. It’s hard to justify the cost when there aren’t really any continuous games to play on it. I have RIGS for my PSVR1, I want a game like that on PC ffs. Or the Gundam Pod arcade game in Japan, but for VR.
