Be excellent to each other.

"I pretended to be the person I wanted to be until I became that person, or he became me." Attributed to Cary Grant. On the days I wake up feeling miles away from the person I want to be, I can pretend.

"Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong"

Made quite a few enemies and traumas by being paranoid af.

"Try anything at least once" be it food or an experience you don't know until you try. You learn about the world, about others and most importantly about yourself.

[-] saimen@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

What about crimes, drugs, very niche hobbies?

Have you ever went skydiving? Not a gotcha, just actually curious. I kinda want to.

[-] agentTeiko@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Did enough of that in the army my knees put that in the category of did a bunch of times and dont ever want to do it again. Jumping at night is the worst. I also hated packing my chute the most.

If you're gonna be stupid, be smart about it.

1: It’s weird to not be weird

2: Hate only the hateful

3: Be intolerant of intolerance

My grandfather (who died well before my time), but I picked up the saying from my mum;

"Pray to God, but row to shore"

My sister gave me the following to bring me up from the depths of despair, and to bring me back to earth before I make an Icarus of myself:

"This too shall pass"

treat people how THEY want to be treated. don't treat people how YOU want to be treated, cuz you aren't the same as everyone else.

golden rule is trash.

[-] saimen@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The golden rule is a oversimplification of Kants categorical imperative which is

"Act only according to that maxim whereby you can at the same time will that it should become a universal law."

So it actually accounts for people being different by saying it has to be applicable to everyone (universal law).

It ain't cheating if you don't get caught.

Not the most noble thing to say, but I follow it from time to time ( mainly in inconsequential things as of now ) Sometimes you gotta cheat to get ahead in whatever you are doing, so just don't get caught.

[-] MrOtingocni@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Don't count your drugs over the toilet.

f you plan for the worst, all surprises are pleasant

[-] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

If the women didn't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy

Expect it to get worse. Either I'm wrong and pleasantly surprised or I get to be right as a consolation prize. Also encourages me to plan ahead so when things go bad, I don't spend as much time mid-crisis figuring out what to do.

The cure to all of life's problems is salt water: sweat, tears, or the sea.

A relationship can only work if all parties are getting out of it what they need.

Never be bored. Your life will be more joyful if you do a lot of activities and your brain is always active and doing something

[-] WindyRebel@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

You will not break me!

[-] rawn@feddit.org 1 points 1 day ago

I've got better things to do than survive.

(Just in case anyone gets this wrong: Survival alone is usually quite little to keep you happy, so it's about going for the stuff you want and taking the risks you need to get there. Anytime I worry about making myself vulnerable, I tell myself this.)

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is

[-] olafurp@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

If you encounter a problem once fix it. If you encounter it twice fix it but note it might be recurring. If you encounter it thrice consider a permanent solution.

[-] Hideakikarate@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Nothing more permanent than a temporary fix.

Be good, or be good at it.

Always have a plan. Be prepared to abandon that plan and make a new plan.
