A few days ago the US sanctioned an Egyptian bank for trading with Iran. (This means they are refusing to sell them USD.) Could this be a response to that?

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 31 points 5 days ago

Likely, and this also goes beyond Iran. The US has basically weaponized the dollar system now, and everybody knows they need to get off of it ASAP.

[-] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 20 points 5 days ago

Nah the EU morons are still fully attached to the United States.

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 17 points 5 days ago

There's a really good interview with colonel Lawrence Wilkerson who was the former Chief of Staff to the Secretary of State where he talks about how the US has full capture of the European political class. So, what we see happening in Europe isn't too surprising.

[-] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 7 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I know, I often find those channels a lil bit to right wing, bordering on fascist but I live in Europe I know how they work. I just hate that he has climate change deniers on his channel it's incredibly harmful.

I also don't see the AfD as an alternative outcome for Europe. Theyre kind of fucking stupid and electing them as an alternative is as dumb as electing Donald Trump.

[-] orc_princess@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago

Not saying you all must, but things won't get better without organizing, until then it will keep moving right until all the mainstream parties are indistinguishable from fascists (which is already happening in many places, to some degree)

[-] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago

Yep. I totally agree, people in politics also tend to not want to be wrong, because at the end of the day a victory in politics means you get a lot of access to power people start just using ideologies to win arguments instead of really trying to understand the thoughts and meaning behind them.

[-] Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.world 9 points 5 days ago

No they aren't. The Dutch just pulled their gold reserves out of the US. The tech bros and Trump are TRYING to crash the dollar. Trump has said that he likes the dollar going down because he is making money.

This is why they push crypto. People don't understand the crash that is coming. At least after the great depression and the 2008 financial crisis we were never questioning the dollar.

When this next crash happens, all that matters are assets. We will have new money. They have said this, project 2025 has said this, Peter Thiel has said this, it is objectively happening.

[-] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Will people fight though? I know the crash is coming I know the US and Europe are fucked, I just hope people fight. I can't take this shit anymore.

[-] Yuccagnocchiyaki@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

There is no doubt that people will fight. The major problem is everyone is just watching the enemy dig in, organize, arm themselves, and sabotage us before acting.

For the US anyway, we are broken in to almost thirds. 1/3 hate it, 1/3 love it, and 1/3 literally don't know anything is happening right now. The ultra rich fractured us really well. Other countries will be better off because you guys still have free healthcare and education which makes your populations INCREDIBLY smarter than a normal american. Don't ever give those up

[-] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

I know. I've been trying to counter this shit for ages. It's why I stayed away from so many orgs.

[-] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 days ago

I am intimately aware of the sheer apathy of the American electorate. That being said, it always holds true that any government is just a few empty meals away from violence. Starvation had already captured people Americans are taught deserve it; we'll see when msm can't cover up in encroaching on more, though.

[-] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

Most mainstream journalists are already posting their real thoughts on YouTube. I'm just trying to use YouTube less.

[-] Garbagio@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

I respect that. Closest I get is FreeTube. But, as dying as msm is, it isn't dead yet. Nobody trusts it, but everybody watches it. It's state-media at this point, and its talking points disseminate all the same. It will get to a point where it can't contain the stories anymore, though, of that I have no doubt.

[-] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

I mean I mainly use it on my phone through ad free apps as well so and I watch long form content. I just like going outside which I'm trying to do more I'm really love knowledge and learning though I'm just kinda chaotic (I think I have ADHD or something) so I have a hard time sitting down and learning traditionally. I find it really interesting that journalists are speaking their minds on private channels, so obviously they don't control the narrative. I would love to start a media company, but I would want to have final editorial say on the type of content put out (not so much what people do maybe just the ability to veto something's by internal vote or something) I would love a new media co op something like Novara but good. There are lots of talented well read and clever people in the msm. Their editors are just nuts.

[-] eldavi@lemmy.ml 1 points 5 days ago

they will once things get so shit for them that they have nothing else to lose.

[-] LemsGhost@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 days ago

Idk, it kind of requires an organisation and training as well

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 5 days ago

The cope in the imitation .ml thread is funny.

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 13 points 5 days ago

I find it really funny how libs see the US losing its geopolitical dominance as a bad thing.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 9 points 5 days ago

It is, for them. It's not fun for those of us who see it necessary. But it is necessary, if life is to have a chance, and moreover, ab free life, healthy in body and mind.

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 4 points 5 days ago
[-] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 days ago

So when I see libs (liberals?) in reference to right-sided groups, that’s different than what the US calls “liberal” yea? Because I thought, in the US, the liberals were left. No?

[-] yogthos@lemmy.ml 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Liberalism is inherently a right wing ideology. You have political liberalism which focuses on all these wholesome ideas like individual freedoms and democracy that are used to market it. But economic liberalism is the meat of the system and it centers around markets, private property, and wealth accumulation. So the whole idea that liberalism supports everyone’s freedom is fundamentally incompatible with enshrining private property rights as sacred because that removes them from political debate.

Equating private property with individual freedom provides the foundational justification for the rich to keep their wealth while ignoring the needs of everyone else. So all the talk of freedom and democracy ends up being just a fig leaf for capitalist relations.

[-] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 6 points 5 days ago

Liberals are the people who support/defend/upholds neo-liberalism/capitalism.

So they are right wing.

They are also conservative if you think about it, because if the status quo is neo-liberalism supporting it is opposing change.

The so called conservatives are the ultra conservative.

[-] balsoft@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago

I think a better label for the so-called "conservatives" is "regressives". They don't even want to preserve the status quo as it is, they want societal development to be rolled back 60-200 years depending on the issue

[-] SocialistVibes01@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago

Your question is just one more example of how the USAians are cooked.

How many mandatory History, Geography, and Philosophy classes did you have in your education?

[-] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

4, 1, 0 in that order. I don’t think the four history lessons count. I learned Christopher Columbus was a cute little explorer, for example.

[-] SocialistVibes01@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)
[-] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 days ago

I realize I may have been slightly misleading, though not much. For each number, I meant that’s the number of years I was assigned to a class. The classes have a year long curriculum in grade school, spanning from about September to June. So I guess I could have said 5xweek for 4 years, 1 year, and none at all.

[-] SocialistVibes01@lemmy.ml 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)
[-] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

It is backwards. It’s rather often that, as an adult, I learn something that is fundamentally contradictory to what I learned in grade school. Usually it’s the framing of events, details that got left out… They paint a story that usually ends with the US saving the day somewhere. Kids learn more politically accurate stories from their family members. Teachers will shush down a kiddo who speaks up on these details, because “professionalism” means yielding to the potential that any one of their student parents might not find the alternative material acceptable.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 4 days ago

Moreover, when US schools teach history, it's mostly a pack of lies. A grain of truth per 1000 kg of 🐂💩.

[-] SocialistVibes01@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

So how can I react when an American guy calls the simple class struggle and mode of production terminology "cliquey" and "hermetic"? 🤷‍♂️ Because I met some of these idiots this week. 🤦‍♂️

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 4 days ago

Whoooo doggy! That's a question with an answer that depends on several variables.

I guess you can lead with, "I understand how you can think that, but it really isn't, it's just something that isn't taught in ____ schools."

If they show interest and time is short, you can explain it was once taught at certain levels, but this society stopped teaching it because they focused on business interests and profit motive? And discuss as much as you can in simple terms, and pick up again at the next opportunity.

If time is long, then I would say follow the same line but I hope you have patience to correct a lot of disinformed perceptions and answer questions.

But also be aware that ignorance very often leads to arrogant disinterest. As much as I want to make people interested, it's a fool's errand. That doesn't mean we can't or shouldn't put forth the effort, but it means if your energy and time are better spent following another avenue, then maybe you consider that.

[-] AlteredEgo@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 days ago

Fascists believe in inequality based on race or gender.

(Neo)liberals believe in inequality based on class or wealth.

So they both believe in inequality. A rich man gets better healthcare, better legal help. Better education. Better food as a child. Have more say and hold more power. Social democrats try to ameliorate that a bit but fundamentally still believe rich man should be above others. This is all right wing from a socialists perspective. This shared belief in inequality also explains how easily they can ally themselves with fascists.

[-] gary_host_laptop@lemmy.ml 3 points 5 days ago
