Me scrolling Lemmy again, after my doctor explicitly forbid scrolling.

[-] cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 month ago

I knew a couple of different people who would fabricate drama if they were actually doing well for once. In a good relationship with a supportive partner? Starts talking to their ex who just got out of prison. Job and housing in order? Spends rent money on a $1200 dog. Things quieted down? Starts fights. I don’t need that nonsense anywhere near my life.

The usual neuroTs confused by neuroDs.

[-] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

neuroDeez nuts

This is like most people lol

In most cases I think it has to do with a large mismatch between human urges, carefully calibrated for a primitive, foraging lifestyle, and modern society.

[-] baines@lemmy.cafe -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

that’s waaay to much justification

they are fucking stupid, put zero effort into forethought

and it is all everyone else's fault

[-] Senal@programming.dev 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Thats some premium triple-distilled trolling right there, congrats

Edit : I want going to ask, because I didn't want to ruin the magic but I can't help myself.

How do you pack it all in like that?

so concise, its almost a haiku.

There's a word for this in mandarin - Dao Mei (forgive me if I got the spelling wrong). But from what I've been told, it doesn't quite mean "bad luck" which implies you had no control over it; but it means that bad things are happening to you because you put yourself into that position

[-] djmikeale@feddit.dk 2 points 1 month ago

Spelling is right - it's 倒霉 / 倒霉 if you wanna look it up

Rake-stepping is the new lingo I'd say

[-] Carl@anarchist.nexus 3 points 1 month ago

It’s basically this meme in another format:

A real life picture of Republican voters.

[-] B1tch_Pudding@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

How I see people who don't follow my exact prescribed advice that I came up with without knowing the situation

[-] i_need_your_bones@piefed.social 0 points 1 month ago

Legit. If someone in my life did this I'd believe them when they say they don't know why they don't move it away. Maybe they can't. Mental health issues can often look like a person standing in fire, not moving out of the fire, just letting it consume them as normal folk watch on talking about how they should have just walked into the water.

"Just stop being depressed" as if it's a choice...

[-] BlueberryWalnut@sopuli.xyz 0 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

I don't remember if it was a comedian or who/where I heard this but someone once likened depression and outsiders talking about it to an asthmatic.

Why are you depressed? Just do things that make you happy - there's so much joy in the world just go get some!

What do you mean you have asthma? There's plenty of air like, right here, just breathe it!

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 4 weeks ago

That's a really good analogy, I can't believe I've never heard that before. I like that a lot actually.

[-] coolansplanet@lemmy.today -3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That's your interpretation, not the real meaning

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 0 points 1 month ago

Sounds like what you call the "real meaning" is your interpretation

[-] coolansplanet@lemmy.today -2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Of course: I made the comic strip, so my interpretation is the right one

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 4 weeks ago

Well that's just not true. It's merely the author's interpretation. Media analysis should extend beyond authoral intent.

[-] sukhmel@programming.dev 0 points 1 month ago
[-] coolansplanet@lemmy.today -3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

My interpretation is still the right one. I'm responsible for what I say, and not what others understand.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 month ago

If that were the case, life would be much simpler. It's not

USians voting Republican be like:

[-] PerogiBoi@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 weeks ago

I met Americans my age (early 30s) when i was at a Caribbean resort. They were from North Carolina. The topic of US politics and their president came up and they said that they voted Republican but they're not maga and are against the things Trumps doing.

We were all confused so we asked them to explain further. They said that voting Republican was just local/family/regional tradition and voting Democrat was unthinkable. They then followed that up with something like "at the end of the day, you still have to show up to work the next day, you still have bills to pay, nothing changes".

The killer was that about 15 or so minutes prior, they talked about how their local society collapsed as a result of a previous hurricane and how FEMA never showed up and then allegedly prevented them from helping out.

[-] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, THEY DON'T COME OFF! DO YOURS DO THAT?!"

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Yeah, this gets applied to things like addiction or poverty, too. “All you gotta do is change stop doing the thing…”. Sure, politically or about other things it’s probably a choice of willful ignorance. But sometimes not so much.

[-] coolansplanet@lemmy.today -3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Nope, this doesn't get applied to those things. It applies to things like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbOtyWTRZ_g

Also to those girls who always have a new reconciliation with their well known violent ex boyfriends

[-] The_Lurker@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

"Because then I would have to admit you were right."

[-] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I’m in this comic and I don’t like it

[-] cadekat@pawb.social 1 points 1 month ago

Same, and same. I must be an emotional masochist or something.

Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. 😇 Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. 📽️ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. 📋 Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      ✅ Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. 📬 Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 🖐) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 🖐) will be removed.
  7. 🏴‍☠️ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      Sí, por favor [Spanish/Español]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)
