Amen! To that.

[-] NightFantom@slrpnk.net 27 points 5 days ago

But linux isn't an operating system, its a kernel.

My pronouns are GNU/Linux

[-] Aceton05@feddit.org 17 points 5 days ago

So since steam is a fluid, I guess steam os was the right choice?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluid

In physics, a fluid is a liquid, gas, or other material that may continuously move and deform (flow) under an applied shear stress, or external force.[1] They have zero shear modulus, or, in simpler terms, are substances which cannot resist any shear force applied to them.[2]

Fun fact: "Nix" means "nothing" in German. Surprise, you're apparently agender!

[-] waldfee@feddit.org 2 points 4 days ago

To add: It's name isn't derived from the german word, but instead from the dutch word niks, which they then shortened to nix again!

I am saddened to inform you that while I do use Arch, I am not actually a femboy.

Fuck, am I going to need to sudo nixos-rebuild --switch to use the bathroom now?

[-] LeftReddit2@lemmy.world 7 points 5 days ago

What if you're like me and use multiple operating systems? I usually use Linux Mint but also have a Windows 10 LTSC computer for my gaming and other windows needs.

[-] Anarki_@lemmy.blahaj.zone 13 points 5 days ago

Genderfluid. Next question.

I use Windows, Debian, Fedora, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, macOS, and whatever I feel like for the day so what does that mean?

[-] KernelTale@programming.dev 6 points 4 days ago

Genderfluid

[-] Jiggle_Physics@quokk.au 6 points 5 days ago

I always felt like gender would be something more like X, rather than the entire OS.

[-] HakFoo@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 5 days ago

That's a dangerous metaphor to bring to the table. People will start talking about Wayland like it's just some sort of bottom surgery, but it's actually way more risky and regretted.

Gender's more like a window manager. It provides a set of conventional frameworks for how you make yourself beautiful, but if it's breaking your workflow or won't give you the tools you want, shop around.

If you keep swapping between X and Wayland, does that make you renderfluid?

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.
